Sreak badge (60 days) not awarded due to step data discrepancy

Hello,

I'm an active Garmin user. My 60-day step goal streak was broken even though I actually met the goal (not the first time).

Here's what happened: on the day before the streak broke, at 11:45 PM my watch showed 11,000 steps, and the Garmin Connect app home screen also showed 11,000 steps. However, when I opened the daily activity widget, the sync data showed only 8,700 steps as of 11:45 PM.

From 11:47 PM to midnight, I monitored the situation. The time on both the watch and the app matched my region with no time zone issues. I tried forcing a sync by toggling Bluetooth on and off and restarting the watch, but the missing steps never synced before midnight.

My watch is set to automatic time. In my region, there are significant GPS issues — positioning frequently fails and time zones sometimes switch unexpectedly.

Questions:

  1. How can I prevent this in the future? Would disabling automatic time zone help prevent GPS issues from interfering with sync?

  • As long as your watch and the phone show the same correct time (which I understood was the case), it does not look like a problem of the time zone, rather of a sync failure during the transfer of the last batch of data. Also, if you are not outdoors recording an activity, the watch does not use GPS. If you see similar failure of syncing again, try syncing over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express.

    If it does not help, then it means the last batch of the data was already deleted from the watch, despite the sync failure. In that case, the only remedy is doing the missing steps again. If you have just little time till the midnight, set the time manually back an hour or two on both, the watch and the phone. Once successfully synced, put back the time to the auto mode, on both ends.

    Don't you by hazard use a Venu or Vivo watch? The reports of Steps sync failure usually come from owners of those models, here on the forums.
