Garmin Connect Android Notifications broken

Starting with the October 8th 2025 5.18 Android release, notifications sent from phone to watch no longer vibrate the watch.

I wear a Garmin Forerunner 255 and use a Google Pixel 9A with the latest version of Android as well as the most up to date security release.

If I set a timer or alarm on the watch, it will vibrate at the conclusion of said timer/alarm, but all notifications received on the phone sent to the watch simply do not vibrate it.

It is not related to “do not disturb”, that setting is turned off.

I downgraded to the 5.17.2 and the watch started to vibrate on phone notifications again. Therefore, as far as I can tell it is a software bug with Garmin Connect version 5.18.

EDIT: This seems to be related to Androids own "Do Not Distrub", previously Garmin Connect would ignore Androids Do Not Disturb setting, but now it is following it.

I have tried to escalate this to the Garmin Android Dev team (reachable at [email protected] - I'd suggest people also try to reach out), but the person who responded to my emails was unable to understand the issue, even after pointing them to this forum post & others on social media.

  • Might contact Garmin later.
For now I worked around it when I found out it was the latest 5.18 witch is the problem.
I unistalled 5.18 from my phone, and downloaded 5.17.2 from a website. Installed this, and turned off auto updates for Connect app.

    Now I have notifications again.

  • I got the same reply from Garmin, telling me that this change was intentional and they currently do not plan to go back but if enough people complain they might re-think it:

If you can provide your serial number to your watch I can have you added to an internal ticket we have tracking customer contacts regarding this change. We currently do not have plans to revert the Do Not Disturb behavior to the previous version but may reconsider if contact volume is significant. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and we’ll be happy to assist you further.

  • Same here, I want the old behaviour, or at least... it should be eligible (in a setting). I've contacted to [email protected], any other thing we can do?
Where can we downgrade to previous version?

  • Being on the old version without further updates is not the solution.

  • It's not. But it's the only working solution right now.
I was in contact with support myself earlier today. They sendt a ticket to devs from me to.

  • And it's really idiotic to do it like they did. Why make the DND from the phone impact the watch. There is DND on the watch witch will do this. Now all they did is make the DND on the watch osbsolete.

  • yes, please go to old dnd settings, was much preferred over this solutions, sometimes you want your watch to notify you when your phone is on quiet.

  • Looks like it took them half a day to "get enough contact volume" to reconsider. I don't know why this was not realized without a lot of us complaining, but I just received this mail with their plans to revert the change:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin product support regarding the changes made to Do Not Disturb (DND) settings. Starting with the 5.18 release of the Connect app, the DND settings on an Android phone will carry over to notifications on Garmin watches. While an Android phone is in DND mode, notifications will not alert on your watch but will still be visible by swiping to your watch’s notification center or glance.

This change will be reverted with an upcoming update to the Connect app and will restore DND functionality to the previous version. I have added your information to our internal ticket on this issue and you should be notified once the update is released, after which you can download it from the Play store on your phone. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and we’ll be happy to assist you further."

  • Woohoo! Excellent news. Thanks Garmin for listening

  • Man if that is true that is good news. I really struggle to get my setup into a satisfying state Sweat smile hopefully the change will come soon.

Imagine that it never was an intentional change but a bug but they labeled is an intentional change
