Voice prompts not working, Garmin 965

Hi, I'm having a problem with audio prompts on my Garmin 965.i've updated to the latest Garmin connect mobile app and the latest watch software, and my audio prompts have stopped,. Most frustrating!RageRage

I've deleted and reinstalled Garmin connect mobile and also reinstalled the latest watch software, with no success. Is anybody else having problems? Thanks

  • I'm still having problems with the latest Connect update, it's fine if I open the app prior to a run and I'll then get voice prompts for my activity. But if it's running in the background, no prompts. Garmin 965 and OnePlus 12 phone.

  • As mentioned above. No, no fix yet.  Do you have to stay with the old version?  Only if you don't want to take 3 minutes to install an earlier version of Garmin Connect  and manually update your apps, remembering NOT to update your Garmin Connect after you have spent 3 mins fixing it. I think we all agree 5.17 broke it, I have my voice working perfectly, with an Australian accent, as selected. using 5.16.2, the version immediately before 5.17.  So if your audio prompts worked immediately before updating to 5.17, start there.  Again though, if you don't want to have to revert back again to 5.16.2, you have to turn off your automatic app updating features.  What I do, is manually update the required apps as listed for updating and very carefully NOT updating Gamin Connect, which should stay on 5.16.2 and have your mobile  happily chat to you as you exercise around. :)

  • You're right but that doesn't fix things for people with a watch who don't take their phones with them.  I backdated and it helps with bike computer because my phone is with me.  

  • Thanks for the comments, all! Since this original post, we've released version 5.18 of Connect Mobile, so please try updating to that and let us know if issues continue.

  • As above confirmed. Version  5.18 downloaded via play store, installed to Samsung 21 Ultra, mobile restared and linked to Fenix 7.  Audio still  not working, reverting again to ver 5.16.2...... :(

  • Version 5.18 is still not working properly, for me. Some voice prompts didn't happen on an interval workout this morning.

    Also I've just been for a 4 km walk. The activity was recorded and not a single voice prompt for the whole 4 km. So Garmin, the voice prompts are still broken. Garmin 965 & OnePlus 12 phone.

    Why can't you revert back to the code which worked in 5.16?

    It's getting laborious to keep swapping back and forth to different versions, just because Garmin broke its software!

  • Same thing, 5.18 is not working. Sometimes it talks, mostly it dos not. And even if it talks it don't do it in background, it brings whole app back to focus! Even if you are doing something else like checking your map or looking for music GC is interrupting it with this absurd "audio prompt in progress" screen.

  • Interesting. I have had no problem with voice prompts using my Fenix 7S, Pixel 8 Pro, GC 5.18, but I always have the phone in my pocket. I'll try running with it in my hand to see if I get this "audio prompt" message. 

  • Yes,  I believe it's because of the watch and phone you use.   The software you have on your Fenix 7s is obviously very different than what is being sent out to current watches.  These are the products that are being broken.   I'm not saying that the Fenix 7 is old,  I'm just saying it's in a more stable state.
