[BUG] Sync DND (Do Not Disturb) Mode Between Android and Garmin Device Settings

Description:
I’d like to bring attention to a long-standing issue with syncing the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode between Android devices and Garmin devices—something that's been reported on this forum for over six years. This is a bug report (not a feature request), as there is inconsistent behavior between the Garmin Connect app on Android and iOS.

Problem Summary:

  • iOS Behavior:
When Smart Notifications are enabled on an iPhone, all system notifications are forwarded to the Garmin watch
If you enable DND mode on the iPhone, both the phone and the Garmin device will not display, ring, or vibrate for any notifications filtered by DND iPhone settings.

  • Android Behavior:
When Smart Notifications are enabled on an Android device, notifications are also forwarded to the watch.
However, if DND mode is enabled on the Android device, the Garmin watch does NOT respect the DND setting. The watch will still ring, vibrate, and/or display notifications—regardless of the phone’s DND status.
The only workaround is to manually enable DND on the Garmin watch, but this blocks all notifications, even those allowed by the phone’s DND settings.

Result:
Users must manually adjust DND settings on both devices to ensure proper notification control, which leads to the risk of missing an important notification or being disturbed by less critical ones.

Users CANNOT recive notifications in the garmin device that have been properly filtered by the Android DND setting.

Previous Discussions:

This issue has been brought up for six years with no resolution, and I wanted to highlight that handling notifications is a core functionality for a smartwatch. It's concerning that it's still unresolved.

Request:

Could we get an official response or fix regarding the syncing of DND settings between Android devices and Garmin watches? This would significantly improve the user experience.

Device Information:

  • Garmin Forerunner 945
  • iPhone 8 (iOS and Garmin Connect app updates for the last 5 years)
  • Pixel 8a (newer device, OS and Garmin Connect app updated for the past year)
  • I mean, you could have enforced your freedom on android and install the old apk, but I completely get the frustration. I myself just stopped using the watch for a couple of weeks at a certain point as this set up is just pure chaos.

  • Help a newbie out, how do I install this older version on my watch? I have a vivoactive 6 - it's been a week since I got it and this inconsistency with the phone is driving me mad.

  • This is really bad. I hope the "compare Garmin to XXX" sites will pick this up, I will put a lot of comments on these sites. Fitbit is maybe not the best watch ever, but on Fitbit this just works as expected.

I would never have bought a Vivoactive if I knew support would be this bad,.

  • I'm one of the people who raised this 6 years ago. It's very disappointing, because Garmin is best in class in quite a few other ways, so why leave a bug like this unfixed???

  • Thanks for writing this bug report. I have a Venu 3 and have the same issue.

  • I think they have added a toggle now?

I just spotted a toggle called "Follow Do Not Disturb Behaviour" in Settings->Notifications->App Notifications in the Garmin App.

    I'm on version 5.22 released on 20.02.2026

  • Oh glad it is then, it means I should finally be able to update from 5.18 ! Thanks for telling us, I'll test in the following days

  • Yes, finally Man dancingI just tested:

Pushover message while DND on at my phone: no message on phone, message on watch Thumbsdown

switched the new setting to on

Pushover message while DND on at my phone: no message on phone, no message on watch Thumbsup

Switched on alarm system: message at phone and watch Thumbsup

    Great, I am happy!

  • This is great news! But does it work on incoming calls?

if you turn DND on and only favurite contacts are allowed, then what happens?

  • Finally, can confirm it works like I'd expect it to. The times of waking up because the watch refused to work in a normal manner is over.
