Do not disturb DND

Hi,

When I manually turn on DND on my android phone, I would like my watch to be silent too. (forerunner 645).

Is this possible?

The phone does not show notifications during DND. But the watch does. The vibration wakes me up.

Thanks!

  • Have you tried Do Not Disturb Mode on the watch? You can set this to automatically enter DND mode based on your normal sleep hours. If you want the watch to go into DND mode when you set it on the phone, then that will likely be a feature request that you can submit here: Garmin Share Ideas.

  • Thanks for answering.

To clarify: I want the watch to go into DND mode automatically when I set DND on the phone. (The DND on watch at night works well).

So I guess Its not possible? I'll make a feature request.

  • I've seen this posted several times, but is there any update on this? (I'm new to the forum, no idea where Garmin keeps the "feature requests")
Personally I also find it very annoying that I have to set both my phone and watch to DND. I understand it's nice to have the option you get messages on your watch when your phone is on DND, but at least give us the option to sync this. I've been woken up several times already by my watch giving notifications during the night of new emails/messages coming in.
Just give us the option please to respect the phone's DND status :-)

  • There seems to be a few posts about this bug. And it is a bug. The app controls which notifications are forwarded from the phone and could very easily block this as it's running on the phone that currently has DND set. Please fix this Garmin

  • If it is a bug then contact Garmin Support to create a support case: https://support.garmin.com/

As a developer I consider this to just be a missing function. Garmin hasn't implemented support for the on-device DND.

  • I think Tim actually makes a very good point here... It's not about syncing the DND mode between the phone and watch, it's about the App not forwarding the notifications in the first place. The fact that it does can indeed very well be considering as a bug. Or at least something that was incorrectly programmed.
Altogether, a fix would be much appreciated.

(interestingly enough I went to bed a bit earlier last night, only to have an annoyed wife next to me two minutes after switching off the light because my watch started buzzing because of incoming WhatsApp messages... the phone was quiet; the watch was not.)

  • I think it should still forward the notification. Just stopping sending notifications will fool the user into believing nothing has happened on the phone that needs attention if the users looks at the watch after DND has been activated on the phone. There is a "Do not disturb mode" that will make the watch quite. I got it set to activate during sleep. Then I will get the notifications but with no vibrations or light. Just like the phone during DND.

I think it is a good idea to sync the DND mode. There are also exceptions for DND like certain callers and apps that you would like to get a notification with vibration for.

  • Thanks for your reply. You make a fair point.
What do you mean though with "I got it set to activate during sleep."?

  • In the watch settings in the app for Sounds & Alerts I've checked the setting "Do Not Disturb During Sleep".

  • Just sent a message to support about this. Let's see!

I'll report back here if I get a response.
