[BUG] Sync DND (Do Not Disturb) Mode Between Android and Garmin Device Settings

Description:
I’d like to bring attention to a long-standing issue with syncing the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode between Android devices and Garmin devices—something that's been reported on this forum for over six years. This is a bug report (not a feature request), as there is inconsistent behavior between the Garmin Connect app on Android and iOS.

Problem Summary:

  • iOS Behavior:
When Smart Notifications are enabled on an iPhone, all system notifications are forwarded to the Garmin watch
If you enable DND mode on the iPhone, both the phone and the Garmin device will not display, ring, or vibrate for any notifications filtered by DND iPhone settings.

  • Android Behavior:
When Smart Notifications are enabled on an Android device, notifications are also forwarded to the watch.
However, if DND mode is enabled on the Android device, the Garmin watch does NOT respect the DND setting. The watch will still ring, vibrate, and/or display notifications—regardless of the phone’s DND status.
The only workaround is to manually enable DND on the Garmin watch, but this blocks all notifications, even those allowed by the phone’s DND settings.

Result:
Users must manually adjust DND settings on both devices to ensure proper notification control, which leads to the risk of missing an important notification or being disturbed by less critical ones.

Users CANNOT recive notifications in the garmin device that have been properly filtered by the Android DND setting.

Previous Discussions:

This issue has been brought up for six years with no resolution, and I wanted to highlight that handling notifications is a core functionality for a smartwatch. It's concerning that it's still unresolved.
Below are two links to forum threads discussing the same issue:

Request:

Could we get an official response or fix regarding the syncing of DND settings between Android devices and Garmin watches? This would significantly improve the user experience.

Device Information:

  • Garmin Forerunner 945
  • iPhone 8 (iOS and Garmin Connect app updates for the last 5 years)
  • Pixel 8a (newer device, OS and Garmin Connect app updated for the past year)
  • That’s not a new idea. I’m not requesting a feature. I’m reporting a BUG. The application doesn’t work the way it is supposed to. It doesn’t work the way it works of iOS.

  • I’m reporting a BUG

In that case I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com. They won't see your report here.

Phone: Galaxy Fold 6, Watch: Forerunner 965

Came from an iPhone 13 Pro where this worked as expected for multiple years and across multiple iOS versions. Now switched to a Galaxy Fold 6, but this will likely be the same for all Galaxy devices running OneUI 6/7.

Turning on DND; silencing and hiding certain app notifications works on the phone. To achieve this on a Galaxy phone with OneUI 7:

    1. Open the "Settings" app
    2. Click "Notifications"
    3. Click "Do not disturb"
    4. Click "App notifications"
    5. Set "Allow all except selected apps"
    6. Add some apps
    7. Go back to the "Do not disturb" menu
    8. Click "Hide notifications"
    9. Toggle "Hide full screen notifications" on
    10. Toggle "Hide from notification panel" on

This setting ensures I don't get popups, sounds, vibrations, nor an entry in the "Notification panel" for the selected apps in step 6. However, my Forerunner 965 still buzzes and shows the notification. I would like the watch to only notify me when my phone would notify me.

I am aware I can disable app notifications separately on the watch, but I would like the setting to reflect what my phone is doing. Indeed, the same as it does on iOS.

I get that Android's notification system is quite convoluted with all these different type of settings. But would much appreciate a fix as well.
