Epix Gen 2 not fully recording activity

I have had the watch for about a month and normally use it when hiking and MTBing. Have noticed it not fully recording the correct distance travelled. My wife and I just completed a ride. She recorded hers straight from the Strava app. Mine was being recorded on my Garmin Epix. Mine showed 25kms while hers showed the correct distance of 40kms. The map of the activity looks exactly the same yet mine recorded almost half the distance...any ideas? Is the watch faulty?

  • The same problem happens when I am riding the analogue bike.

Please post a link to an activity with that bike too.

So, are you saying that my new Epix will use GPS to track the ride on my analogue, but uses the sensor on my ebike to track the ride?

No, I am telling that the watch will preferentially measure the distance with a wheel sensor, whenever it is available, because it is much more accurate (assuming the sensor is calibrated), and works regardless of the quality of the GPS signal.

Can I trick it to think both are analogous?

Why would you want to do it? I rather suggest calibrating the sensor, as already advised. But if you really do not want to use the sensor, remove it from the watch (it is in Sensors & Accessories), respectively better just set its Status to Off, and disable the auto-discovery there too.

  • Ok I'll go find one of the analogue rides and post a link asap.

But to be honest I had no idea the watch was looking to connect to the bike. I'm assuming this is a feature for the new models of watch's as my Instinct didn't have this issue.

I'll have a look at the sensors as you said. Appreciate your replies Trux and Andy. Let you know how it goes.

  • BTW, if you used a standard bike, and someone rode the eBike near you, your watch that was already paired with it, would connect to it anyway. So, besides disabling the sensor auto-discovery, you also have to set the Status of the eBike sensor to Off, whenever you do not wish to use it, and someone on the same trip rides the bike.
