Garmin Connect App on Android won't stay open

Hello - I saw this question posted a few years ago, with no solution other than call Garmin, but thought ask try again, since support is closed today. I woke up this morning, and my Garmin Connect app on my Google Pixel will not stay open. Android version is 14.  9 hours ago, there was no problem. Since then, the time updated  automatically to account for DST.I have cleared the cache, stopped the app, restarted my phone, uninstalled the app, restarted the phone....it still won't stay open. No surprise - it also isn' t syncing to my watch. Since I also have a Google Chromebook, there will be no syncing until the problem with the app on my phone is resolved. Any other ideas of how to fix this would be appreciated.

  • Looks like the crash is gone -- but no update was posted for the app, so whatever was killing it was on the back end.  I turned the beta back on and it is working; now that I know how to turn it on and off I'll hang with it since I can shut it down without much hassle if it screws up again.

  • Got it working. went online to garmin connect, logged in, and disabled the beta under settings.

At this point, it still failed, so I deleted the cache and data. Then when I ran the android app and logged into my account, it worked in non-beta mode.

I like the beta, but this is more of an alpha -- and I don't have time for that.

  • The fix is to use the web and opt out of beta. Then you can use the contact app normally again. If fails, clear cached and data. Will region beta when this is fixed!

  • after numerous unsucessful attempts to uninstall/install, I ended up finding an antiquated windows laptop, installing Garmin Express on it, and syncing that way. After that, I reinstalled Connect on my phone, and now, everything is working. Not sure if that was a fix, or just coincidence, but either way, my fingers are crossed that the phone app stays operational.

  • I am having the same issue and I have:

    1. Uninstalled and restarted my phone
    2. Reinstalled app, cleared cache, and data
    3. Left Beta online

I am still having the same issue. Has anyone reported it on the Beta Bug page?

  • Only fix is to opt out of beta on the web. Then, try opening the connect app. If not, then clear cache and data. Then, try again. But you have to opt out of beta online web page first

  • I think a backend service was down or buggy and app wasn't handling it gracefully so it kept crashing. They must have addressed it on server side. The app wasn't updated.

  • Same issue using my Samsung S24 and in Garmin Connect Beta.  As noted by others, neither device restart nor cache clear helps.  It's good to see at least there is a workaround to drop from Beta via the website, but I'm not up for clearing all data, etc.  I'm just going to try to wait out the outage with leaving Beta and clearing data as a last resort.

  • It's the beta. You'll have to go the web verson, settings, and get out of the beta. I uninstall the app because clearing the cache didn't work, logged back in and now it's working fine.

  • Garmin appears to have resolved the issue.  Beta has been back up and running.
