Body battery below 30 for 2 weeks

So I've read many of the similar threads regarding low body batteries. This isn't a technology issue, and I know that "diagnosing" someone in an online forum is difficult, but honestly, I am so exhausted I can't even think for myself what to do any more...

I'm so desperate for sleep that I had my doctor call me in a sleeping pill Rx. But that also comes with medicine-head hangover so I do not want to use the Rx regularly. I've only taken it one night so I didn't expect any immediate changes.

Basically for the past two weeks, my body battery has not gone above 30. Most days it's been below 20. Only 1 day in the past two weeks got to 30.

As far as I can tell, I do not have any illness. I'm pretty in-tune with my body and I know for sure when I'm sick. Still, blood work shows nothing recent. I've never had Covid. No cold. No flu. Not even a stuffy or runny nose.

I don't drink alcohol. I stop caffeine by 11am, and usually only have a cup or two (compared to when I was a teacher and drank coffee all day). I exercise in the first half of the day. I hit my daily protein goal. I stop eating and drinking about 2 to 3 hours before bed. But I am hydrated throughout the day. I typically only drink water, coffee, and kombucha. Protein fills me up so I don't really have room for snacks or junk food, but if I do, it's typically for calories after I've eaten my meal.

I don't recall any specific wakings where I had preoccupied thoughts. I know in the past that would wake me up in the middle of the night.

I'm just desperate for sleep at this point. I've had plenty of days in the past that were above 40 or 50 or 60. But this has been the longest streak of low numbers... I'm just so tired.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Body Battery uses low stress (measured by HRV) to recharge. I can only look at the graph. It started to go down on Feb 12, but you still recharged ok. The recharge on Feb 15 (middle of the week) was really low. Then you came back to a higher level during the weeekend. Then it started to go down again in the middle of the week.

I would start by looking at the sleep and try to get that in order before looking at Body Battery and HRV. You can sleep for say 8 hours, but Body Battery will still not recharge if you got high stress during sleep.

It sounds like you know about and got control of most things that might affect the sleep negatively.

    What are your sleeping habits?

I don't know your age but take a look at "andropause". That can cause all types of odd issues with the body.

If you slept good and recharged body battery good or ok before these last couple of weeks, then it might be short-term insomnia which will pass over time. What might cause it? Insomnia can be caused by stress and since body battery uses stress it correlates very well.

  • All great points. My testosterone is plenty good especially for a 42 year old. I don't have the exact number but my last blood work in Feb had it around 900+.

Yeah, I hope it might just be a little bout of insomnia. My wife and I also discussed possibly switching mattresses or I may need a certain pillow. I have issues with my arms falling asleep during the night. Like from the shoulder down.

My sleep pattern is pretty regular. Usually in bed between 9 and 10 each night and alarm at 630. I'm usually awake before then or I haven't really been asleep for a while by that point. So I definitely know the second half of the night is less restful than the first half.

I appreciate the insights though! I do see a correlation with the stress readings.

But sometimes, I'm sitting perfectly still, not stressed and it's reading a "high" level (like 80s or 90s). Nothing going on. I'm not even thinking about much.

I wonder if having a low resting heart rate (under 60 bpm) affects the variability in the stress reading and it is showing much higher stress than actual.

  • When your stress level is too high, your bodybattery cannot load.
