Garmin connect blending data from Edge 1030 data & Forerunner 965. No heart rate data appears in Garmin connect from Edge 1030 bike ride

I have a Edge 1030 that i use for cycling. I just brought a Forerunner 965 for everything else. Yesterday i did a 3 hr ride and took the 965 off because i had the edge and heart rate strap. After completing the ride and uploading it and putting the 965 back on, i noticed that no Heart rate data filled in the gap from when i took the 965 off. Should the data from the Edge 1030 fill in the gaps when the 965 is not on? If it doesn't, then doesn't that make other stats such as average HR, max Hr, Body battery, Stress etc all become not valid due to me doing another stressful session. Can the edge data be blended into the 965 data and is so how?

  • according to that article I linked, it seems it should be pumping HR data into Connect.

No, it is the Primary Wearable Device (not the PTD) that delivers the wellness data:

What is Unified Training Status? | Edge® 840 Solar | Garmin Customer Support:

A primary wearable is a setting that determines the primary source for tracking all-day wellness data such as HRV Status, Sleep, Stress, etc.

And since Edge computers cannot be set as the PWD, Instinct takes the role (even if it does not support the Unified Training Status).
    Hence my support chat.

  • I meant that I'm talking with support separately, but I had to leave in the middle for a meeting. Picking it back up now.

  • The support case is "pending implementation" so maybe there is a bug here. But are you also suggesting that a newer HR strap would store the data and sync to Connect as well? I see that the HRM Pro actually has some memory, but if I'm using it with my Edge, wouldn't that HR data be sync'd to the Edge and not to Connect (from the HR strap directly) later?

That said, my old HR strap has been having some problems lately - often loses my heart rate even if I'm already sweaty, despite a new CR2032 - so maybe it is time to upgrade regardless.

  • if I'm using it with my Edge, wouldn't that HR data be sync'd to the Edge and not to Connect (from the HR strap directly) later?

Edge only records HR data into the activity FIT file. It does not record the all-day HR data. HRM-Pro can (if paired with the GC app).

  • Would the HRM Pro, if paired with both the Edge and Connect, sync data to both? If so, that may be the proverbial straw to replace my old strap.

  • Oddly, though, I was looking through past indoor and outdoor rides and a few actually recorded data to Connect. My watch isn't paired with my Edge because I never expected to use it over my strap.

Or maybe I had left my watch on. I'll test that tonight.

    Yes

My watch isn't paired with my Edge

You do not need to pair the watch with Edge, and it would not record any daily HR anyway, if you did not wear the watch. You can only broadcast HR from the watch to Edge, not in the opposite way. You would have to pair the watch with the strap and start an activity on it, in order to read the HR from the strap.
