Calories not added to Garmin Connect

I recently switched from an edge 530 to 540 and also from a forerunner 745 to an 265. Before the calorie count would match the recorded activities. When I added up the activity calories  it'd match the active calories in the calorie section.

Now, with the new devices it looks like the calorie count from the forerunner is being used, instead of using the recorded calories on my edge (based on a power meter, so it's way more accurate.

As you can see here them 100km ride recorded a calorie burn of 2494 of which 2245 were active ones. In the calories secrion it says I have 1891 active calories.

How do I get Garmin Connect to use the calories burned from the actual activity?

  • Which actually is no solution since it doesn’t work even when you don’t wear the watch. It worked yesterday for me and today. The only different thing I did is I rode a structured training instead of just starting a ride.

  • Pretty much the worst solution for something which has been a problem FOR YEARS.

By now they should have been able to figure out how to sync up their Date/Time and prioritize the device that has the activity recorded on it.

    Garbage solution.

  • Same here. I just upgraded from the edge 830 to the edge 1040 and VO2max is not changing anymore. It is the same value of 59 for 4 month. With the 830 it fluctuated between 57 and 65 depending on training cycle. Garmin's answer, the readings are correct and the 1040 uses a different algorithm...... . And since one week I changed from the forerunner 945 to the 965 and active calories are not read from the 1040 despite having it as "primary training device" under settings. If Garmin honestly things that the only way around is not wearing the watch during activities, I'm giving up on them. Having a power meter gives 100% accurate work/calorie readings under activities. How difficult can it be to copy past that value in Garmin Connect, especially if it worked before.

  • Same problem as everyone here. Moved from AW to Venu 3 and Edge 1040. After finishing indoor workout on 1040 the only active calories displayed on the Venu 3 was from daily activities and nothing from 1040 - major disappointment.

  • What a joke.  Calories synced up perfectly with my Edge 530, but I "upgraded" to an 840 and now they can't even add two numbers.  I understand there will be bugs when new hardware and software are released, but this is coming up on a year without resolution.

  • They don't care or they would reply with a timeline for a verified path to a solution.

  • Does anyone have any update on this? I'm on a similar situation, I recently set a new Edge 540 as my primary training device and I wear a Fenix 7 as my daily watch. The activity calories recorded with the 540 are not accounted in the Fenix. The watch simply shows its "estimation" of active calories instead of taking the data from the actual ride in 540. Frustrating!

  • There is no update and I would be surprised if there will be, to be honest.

what I realized and what worked for me so far. If I start an activity on the watch and save it after a couple of minutes and then go for a bike ride an record it on my edge, it acknowledges the calories in connect for both activities.
I can’t tell you why that is but it worked the last two times I went for a ride. Only realized it before I had both times as swim before the bike. On a day without activity before, the calories haven’t been acknowledged. The next day I started a 2min yoga session on the watch before the bike and afterwards the calories from the yoga and the ride recorded on the edge have been accounted for.

  • Ok, this is useful. I'll try this tomorrow and let the community know.

  • I had the same issue today with a 540. The calories simply were not accounted for. This was the first time it happened, while a few other activity recorded just fine. Not sure what difference there was. I will try the trick of starting a quick activity before on the watch to see if that works. Anybody else tried that who can confirm?
