Body Battery not increasing

My Body Battery seems doesn't seem to be working correctly.  Although how it actually calculates is a bit out a mystery.

I'm getting 8 hours plus sleep, including 1.5 -2 hours REM. And at least the same in deep sleep.  My stress level is anywhere from 35-48 for the last few weeks.  Yesterday I traveled by car 4 hours but application tracked my at high stress?????56

My body Battery for the last week has pretty much stayed flat.  Little to no increase at night.

Any idea why?  Any one else seen this happen?

  • The body battery function doesn't work right for most users. That's based on what I've read on various threads here and 4 people I know with the same device. Neither myself nor those 4 are getting body battery readings that make sense. But the steps and activity functions I use do seem accurate so I'm satisfied with my 2 ½ year old Garmin. Previously I used a Fitbit and went through 3 in 2 years. The Garmin isn't a medical grade device but for the fundamentals, it's pretty dang good.

(Also th O² function is way off. I've checked it many times against my finger O² device and especially at night it's way off...and I wear it pretty snug so it's not sliding around)

  • I have stayed in bed for 24 hours to recoup and it says I’m stressed the entire time.  I don’t drink or go out at night.  Woke up after 8 hrs sleep to a 14.  If resting stresses me out, either the algorithm is wrong or I should be dead.

  • Stress is measured by HRV. So, you can't really feel that type of stress. That you needed to stay in bed for 24 hours sounds like you are stressed for some reason.

Why did you need to rest for that long time?

  • Why are you so adamant that we are all somehow stressed vs there being a problem with the Garmin functionality?  Are you somehow paid for your replies?

Multiple people are having this problem.

  • It works very good for a lot of people so it isn't a general problem with body battery. I can't do anything with how it works. I can only look at the documentation and use my experience from my Garmin devices and tell you how it is supposed to work and help you look into that. That is what this forum is for. If you have issues that Garmin needs to act on you should report them to Garmin Support.

You can't do anything with how the body battery is calculated on the watch right now. You can report it to Garmin and they might or might not do anything with that. Look at what you can do yourself now. Find out how body battery works. There are many users that don't understand how it works and then starts to blame the watch and Garmin because they don't feel stressed at all. Many users thinks that they are not stressed just because they are at sleep, but that is not how it works. There are lots of misunderstandings and reluctance to find out how it really works.

Could it be something with your body, your life etc. that makes the body battery to not work? Check the different factors in the support pages for body battery and see if you can do something with that to make it work better.

Have you done all the standard actions for solving issues with the watch? Restart, update with Garmin Express, factory reset?

When you've done everything you can on your side then you can contact Garmin Support and tell them that it isn't working and you've tried everything you can do. They can then act on that.

  • Multiple people are having this problem

Yes, there is a handful of people who reported some problems, but there are millions of those for whom it works without any issues. They simply just do not come here to the forum to tell us about it.

Yesterday I traveled by car 4 hours but application tracked my at high stress?????56

You gave us the perfect proof that the stress detection works all right for you. Travelling in the car (especially though not necessarily if you are driving) is a very stressful activity, so the score of 56 is nothing unexpected. It could be even higher.

Seeing the tone of your posts, I fear that you are really getting easily stressed by unimportant details, so maybe you should take easier, and the stress may settle down a bit too.

Anyway, you also may need to re-establish the HRV baseline. First of all I'd recommend performing the less invasive soft-reset (hold the Light button for some 30s till the watch shuts down, then restart). Then wait  for the next night and see, whether it helped. If not, do the master reset, restoring the factory defaults, deleting all data (data already synced will stay in your Garmin Connect account). The watch will then relearn you physiology again, and you may get better data.
