Show Performance Stats for Garmin Instinct.

I have a garmin instinct. Is there any way to turn on the PERFORMANCE STATS IN in the android connect app , like you can for the fenix and forerunner etc.

Not showing performance stats doesn't make any sense, since the Instinct still records the GPS, hr etc.

  • Performance stats heavily rely on VO₂, and since Instinct does not have that feature, it also does not have Performance Condition, Training Effect, Training Status, and other performace related features.

  • I understand the Vo2 max is calculated from heart rate and speed etc, so should be easily calculated from that data?

Technically it could, but Instinct does not support this feature, hence it does not. Apparently it is a deliberate decision of Garmin not to equip Instinct with the VO₂ technology from Firstbeat, and it did not change even with the recent appearance of the new Instinct Solar model, hence it is unlikely it would change.

Instinct simply does not support VO₂ and related features, never supported it, and it is also not listed among the available features in the specs. If you need a watch with the VO₂  functionality, you'll have to select another model supporting it.

  • Yes, I didn't expect Vo2 max on my watch, but it's still pretty disappointing that Garmin don't show the PERFORMANCE STATS on their app for profit reasons, not technical reasons and I have to pay $60 a year to Strava to obtain the data..

There may be technical reasons too, and there originally were licensing reasons (and it is unclear whether the recent acquiring of Firstbeat by Garmin changed anything on it). However, Garmin never claimed in the specifications of Instinct that it supports the VO₂Max and Performance functionality, so if you wanted it, you selectted the wrong model.

Not sure how you think Garmin profits from it - there are plenty of Garmin models supporting the VO₂ related features, which are less expensive than Instinct, so if you really need the VO₂ functionality, you could choose another model and actually save money.

  • In regards to Garmins profit focus vs customer focus , I get the impression that Garmin has made a commercial decision to exclude performance stats from the instinct, to prevent a large drop in sales for the much more expensive fenix.  Both watches appear to have similar capabilities, but a block of software has been excluded from the the instinct. The instinct has a heavy running and cycling focus with it's configuration.... Hence the frustration for users who want to simply monitor their fitness on the Connect App... Disappointing!!!

  • They could also equip it with all what Fenix offers, but then it would have the price of Fenix too. You get what you pay for.

  • Once again, I'm more than happy with the watch itself. I think we're probably on a different wave length and will sign off now from this discussion, now that I've hit the brick wall. Doesn't seem to be any work-arounds via the connect app. Thank you for you time.

  • You can use runalyze.com to calculate VO2max.

  • It's not true that it need VO2, i get training effects with garmin edge 130+ with sigma hr strap (so only hr) but I do not get it from garmin instict solar which HAS the PulseOX feature, go figure!
