Walk the walk 4 and 5

Hi, I've just counted and I have 160 walks after April 30th but still haven't got my badge for 100 walks. I have a Forerunner 230 and have to record my walks as 'other' and then edit them in the App. They have registered for the various monthly challenges over the last 3 months (complete a 3 mile...etc.) so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Some of my walks I save as 'casual walking' if strolling with family and some I save as 'speed walking' if on my own. As I say, these both seem to count towards other challenges.

Help!!!

Thanks in advance

  • I checked my first 5 walks for the first Walk the Walk badge. The length of them were: 24, 25, 7, 5 and 6 minutes. My conclusion of that is that there are no time limit and Garmin should have written in the description if there was such a time limit.

I often log a walk before and after each run as warm up and cool down and many of those are just 2 minutes long and I still get my walking badges.

I'm just 15 walks from get the Walk the Walk 5 badge. It will be interesting to see if that count holds or how many I have to do over that count. Probably a few since I often download the TCX files, remove the original activity and upload the TCX file again to test things. Those walks will not count since they are imported.

Thank you Andy. Well I've rechecked and recounted and I'm deffo on 101. I'll carry on recording and see what happens. I guess some walking records just fell down the back of Garmin's sofa....

I just noticed the comment about manual entries. 2 of mine were manual because I forgot to take the Garmin with me! so perhaps I'm 2 away - let's see. Makes you wonder why the manual option is there...

  • Everything isn't about the badges and badge challenges. For most people Garmin Connect is just for training and when you don't have your Garmin device it is good to be able to add your training anyway.

Thanks everyone, Yes, you're right , it's not all about the badges. I'll still be walking with or without a badge :-) Was just curious why mine hadn't popped. I will definitely set a goal as you say, that's a good idea. As I say, I'm not necessarily obsessed about the badge, just curious. A goal will definitely show if all of my walks are getting added.

    Thanks again

Hi all, as an update, I just got my walk the walk 4 badge today. Interestingly although that was my 167th walk since April 30th, it was my 100th 'casual" walk exactly today. So for me at least it appears only my casual walks counted and not my speed walks. I would have never known where to look at progress so thanks for that. Only another 100 'casual' walks to go now then :-)

  • I did a number of tests to test this observation. I did it with the first "Walk the Walk" badge since it is the easiest to test with since it only requires 5 walks. It might work differently for the other Walk the Walk badges (level 2-5).

I got the badge for both casual and speed walking. My final test was with 1 Walking, 2 Casual walking and 2 Speed walking. I was awarded with the badge for those activities as well.

What I noticed during my tests was that either there are huge delays in the processing for badges or it is time based or not all was counted after each edit. I did several edits for each activity before I got the badge. It was also really hard to get rid of the badge between each test.

I will continue to do more tests to test some ideas concerning the evaluation time and triggers for the badges.

I can't figure it out. I change the activity type and title back and forth, but when the badge is triggered isn't consistent. All of a sudden it appears or disappears. These badges that requires some sort of counting are implemented in some other way than the single requirement badges like the goal badge that only requires one activity to be evaluated.

  • Just checked mine and 103 walks and still no badge so the issues you had 2 years ago is still there, sort it GArmin or stop making fictional badges...

  • Are you sure none of them were entered manually, or imported, instead of been recorded by a Garmin device? And are all of them newer than 2020 Apr 28?

  • Yes 100 % all done on a fenix 5 or 7 , they are not the end of the world but definitely nice to have
