Virtual climb badge

Hi,

I went for the 1500ft badge, but fell short by a foot and was awarded the 1000ft badge, so was determined to go for it again.

This time I went for the 734ft badge and did 770, but was only awarded the 334 badge. Why??

Then today I went for the 1500ft badge by doing 1610ft, but havent been awarded anything yet? Why please?

Kind regards

Chris

  • I did one climb activity over 1500 ft and got the badge but don’t understand why it didn’t give me the other lower level badges as I should be getting all those too! For other badges in the past this wasn’t the case. Ideas?

No, you should not. Floor Climb badges are awarded individually. Only one badge per activity.

For other badges in the past this wasn’t the case

It depends. At Steps badges, you can indeed get multiple badges the same day. But for example with running (except of treadmill running) or cycling badges, the same method is used, and you get only the bigger badge for a single activity, too

  • How do we earn these badges? Is it through a recorded activity? And is it any specific ones?

  • I found that the number of floors was important.  I had 108m of elevation gain but it didn't trigger the badge so I updated the number of floors climbed (which was only 10), once saved the badge was awarded.  However, I went wild with the number of floors and was awarded the Druid Arch.  I feel a bit bad about that so I'll have to head out at some point and record that as an activity.

Thanks for the tip on updating the activity, I don't think I'd have tried that if I hadn't read your solution.

I use the stair stepper+ activity in the gym and when I bought the Fenix 5 I had hoped that the garmin stair stepper activity would work and update the number of stairs climbed in the activity but that has been really disappointing.  I understand the difference in the recording for the activities, i.e. barometric pressure, but the activity is just counting calories.  It would be nice if stair stepper+ was able to record the floors in the main data fields.

After recent change by Garmin, the Floor Climb badge are no more depending on the Elevation Gain as they did originally, but on the Total Ascent (that is directly coupled with the number of floors).

When on a stepping machine, your elevation does not change, hence the watch cannot detect any stair climbing. From the point of view of the watch (and its accelerometer + gyro) worn on your wrist, there is barely any difference to a plain flat walk. You better do your floor climbs on true stair scales, or even outside on hill slopes. Not only it will be recorded by the watch, but it is more fun than stepping on a machine Slight smile

  • in this, https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/5481806508

my elevation gain was 130. total floor climbed 45.

if I calculate the elevation graph I should have got 239m but I didn't get the "virtual climb - druid arch 735 feet / 224 meter"

  • Your activity is of the type Walk. You have to change it Floor Climb, and the total Ascent has to be over 735 feet.
