Live track doesn`t work, again

Live track worked fine until recently. Yesterday I went on a big ride and live track failed. The notifications were sent, but the web page just said "No signal. Trying to reconnect.".

Just now my wife went on a ride and the same thing repeated.

We both use Garmin Edge 1000 and android mobile phones.

I guess that there was an update which messed it up. It wouldn`t be the first time.

Are there more users with the same problem and does someone know the solution?

  • Read the thread - the fix is on the way, so either wait for the release of the next version of GC Mobile, or downgradfe to the previous one

After downgrading to 4.29 the garmin 35 is tracking again but without recording the route.
Left is my wife her garmin and left is my son.

    Anybody knows why?

    Could it be the upgrade?

  • Anybody knows why?

Could you post the Live Track link and the link to the same activity in Garmin Connect as well?

  • Going back to 4.29 worked for me...  thanks!

  • I did a virtual marathon at the end of April and mine was working fine/like normal. Fenix 5x connected to a cheap but very dependable Chinese Android phone (Unihertz Atom).

Sometime in May, Live Track stopped working (or never started working at all) while I was on bicycle rides.

My first problem was that I would get a "Phone Disconnected" notification on either my Edge 820 or fenix 5x (whichever I had used to autostart Live Track). From that point on in my ride, my location and track would not get updated. I believe there had been a Connect app automatic update but I am not certain. Live Track would start and the notifications would get sent but Live Track would fail somewhere in the middle of my rides.

My second problem was that I would get an "Unable to send email notifications" message when trying to start Live Track (either automatically or manually)

After doing two things, my problems appear to be solved.

    1) I had been using a bluetooth speaker in my bicycle top tube bag to play music. Once I stopped using this speaker (either not listening to music entirely or listening using earbuds), I never again had the "Phone Disconnected" message and Live Track worked for the entire ride or run.

    2) Open the Connect app. Go to Settings, then Phone Permissions. Make sure "Your location" and "Contacts" are both ON. For some reason, these settings changed to "OFF" after a Connect app update. After doing this, I believe you will get some sort of message about Connect running in the background the first time you open up Connect. I clicked "OK". This seems to have solved the "Unable to send email notifications" problem.

I might add that I have found Strava Beacon location sharing to be a lot more dependable than Live Track.

At least for me, it was not necessary to install a previous version of Connect using an APK site.

  • Hi crewtle,

after a couple of months without using my .garmin 1000 iI must have undone my cancel of updates , I was running 4.29 and the version I now have is 4.39,

can you help again in my attempts to revert back to 4.29 which provided everything I need from the Garmin.

i have downloaded APKMirror but need some guides on deleting ver 4.39 and then  reinstalling 4.29.  - very much appreciate any guidance you can give.

    thank you

Long-tap the icon of Garmin Connect on the phone's screen, select App Info, tap Uninstall at the bottom. Then find the APK you downloaded from apkmirror.com (use for example a file manager on your phone), and open it to install it.

You also may want to disable the auto-update option of the app in the Google Play Store (open it there, for example again through the App Info menu)

  • Hi ya

I have the same issue that the live tracking no longer works. I tried the install of 4.29 but it still does not work for me unfortunately.
Not sure of the issue is the app, the watch or something at Garmin's server end.

Probably won't get noticed or fixed unfortunately.

  • Do you have to delete the version on the phone prior to loading ver 29 , how would that be done?

  • Yes I did but unfortunately it didn't help.

I did get it to work if I start it manually in the GC app so.perhaps the issue is the autostart element.
