Connect (Android) won't sync with Garmin Instinct

Downloaded and installed both watch and Connect (Android) app updates (February 2020) and now the app won't connect to my watch when in pairing mode. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app numerous times, toggled the phone's bluetooth so much I'm shocked that part of the screen works anymore, restarted my phone over 20 times, restarted my Instinct watch several times, and even tried resetting it back to factory settings. Is this an update issue? Please advise, as i would LOVE to use my first Garmin watch to it's full potential. Thanks!
