Garmin Pay Vivoactive 4 not connected after update

I recently bought the Vivoactive 4 and am now trying to set up Garmin Pay and add a card via the Connect app. However, when I open in Connect Garmin Pay I get the message that the Vivoactive 4 is not connected and that a software update is needed. My vivoactive runs the latest version, the Connect app is up-to-date and it simply synchronizes my activities. I have already uninstalled and re-installed the Connect app, but that didn't help. Cache of the app thrown away, vivoactive added again in Connect. All in vain. 

Anyone any suggestions?
