LiveTrack - Cannot Enter Email Address or Contact

When trying to use LiveTrack, I connot enter anything into the "Recipients" field, even with  Email  selected in the "Share Web Link" section of the LiveTrack set up page.

I have noticed I also get "An error has occurred" message briefly appearing a the bottom of the screen.

This is using the latest version of GCM and a Garmin 1030 with the latest firmware.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled GCM - no change.

Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Yes, if I tap on a recipient in the second screenshot I also get the popup with the delete option, however when choosing the delete option, all that does is remove the check mark in the box. The contact itself still remains in the list.

Just to confirm, Are you saying that in my second screenshot, you can physically remove all those entries so that screen is blank? I added a few test accounts, both created from within the app and also from the phone contacts, I cannot delete those either now! Laughing

Reinstalled GCM twice, cleared both the app cache and the 3 finger/ button low level phone cache, the details remain!

  • Just checked to answer your question on removing all of the entries until the screen is blank.... and the answer is no!

The functionality is a mess! Angry

Edit Recipients seems to be showing not just the recipients for the LiveTrack session you are trying to set up but a list of contacts within GCM. If you try to delete a contact that was NOT actually a Recipient for the LiveTrack session, it behaves as you have described.

Have you tried deleting the recipients from the GCM Contacts screen? If they are also contacts on your phone, they will not be deleted from there, only from GCM.

Sadly if they are contacts created within GCM, they will be deleted.

  • Oh, geez, I never even noticed the separate Contact section in GCM! Yeah, I can delete the contacts in there and they disappear from the Live Track recipients pool! Yay! Added them again from the (now correct) phone contacts and all is good with the world Slight smile.

Thanks for your help and patience, I feel a bit dumb not noticing that, but as you say, the app and the functionality within the Live Track UI is a mess!

  • You're welcome Tim. Glad that you got it fixed.

The UI is at best, confusing.  Additionally, the fact that for me, fixing LiveTrack also mysteriously fixed Strava Segments is something I don't understand but I'll take it! Expressionless

  • Do not go crazy. I think that all the problems that we are mentioning here are related to the same, LiveTrack connection problems with the Garmin server. All the information shown on the LT screen is taken from the server when we open LT, so it is giving us connection error. Until the connection is made properly, I believe that we will not be able to modify any option.
Some time ago I remember that something similar happened with LT as well, it stopped working, did not start even in manual mode and did not position either. It took a long time to repair it from Garmin ...

  • I think my issue is that I became so focused on Live Track, I didn't consider looking elsewhere - my theory being, if I added the contact under Live Track, surely I could delete or modify from within same.

On one hand I can understand the way it's set up, I could see people complaining that by deleting a contact under Live Track, it deleted it from the whole GCM ecosystem - it's just that it's not very intuitive if you don't use or know about the other parts of the social workings of the app.
