LiveTrack - Cannot Enter Email Address or Contact

When trying to use LiveTrack, I connot enter anything into the "Recipients" field, even with  Email  selected in the "Share Web Link" section of the LiveTrack set up page.

I have noticed I also get "An error has occurred" message briefly appearing a the bottom of the screen.

This is using the latest version of GCM and a Garmin 1030 with the latest firmware.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled GCM - no change.

Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Same problem for me. Livetrack works fine  and send link to old contacts enter before this problem. But now, I can´t change configuration, GCM show message "An error has occurred"

  • See your reply here ROYSO72 has reminded to to post an update and say that I have managed to fix it... and a weird issue it was too!!

I noticed there there were options to send the tracking information by Email or Twitter but no mention of Strava Beacon (which I have via my Strava "Premium" (or whatever its called now!) but dont use.

I used the Strava moblile app to start an activity and enabled Strava Beacon...an option appeared to use Beacon via Garmin Connect, which I accepted. At that point Garmin Connect Mobile asked for permission to use Strava Beacon for LiveTrack and guess what...?

The Email address entry field was now enabled for LiveTrack and I could enter email addresses!

What is even stranger is that a different issue that I had with Strava Live Segments never appearing on Garmin Connect Mobile (Same error message "An error has occurred") has also now vanished. I can now also see my live segments from Strava in GCM.

So it seems that in my case anyway, there was some issue with permissions and access between GCM and Strava which granting access to Strava Beacon has now resolved.

I hope this is of some help.

  • Thank you friend, but this has not solved my problem. I don't have a strava summit. I have unchecked the privacy consent and mark it again, in case that could solve the problem, but it has not been so. There must be a communication problem between GCM and the Garmin data server, which does not allow changing options at this time.

  • I'm not sure if it's related, I've only just tried to setup and use LiveTrack for the first time despite having Garmins for close to 10 years...

However, how do you delete or update a contact entered under live track> I noticed my phone contact email address was wrong so updated it, but LiveTrack still has the old info, I thought I could delete the contact in LT and add it again, nope!

To enter an email address manually, I found that I have to hit "done" on the phone keypad rather than "save" at the top of the screen, was going around in circles trying to add one

  • Hi Tim

To delete a previously entered LiveTrack email address swipe the address field to the left and that should do it.

  • Hi , yes, swiping left removes the contact from the current Live Track session list, however there does not appear to be any way to change or delete the pool of contacts that Live Track can use.

    For example,

    • contact in phone called Tim B with email address of Tim@ garmin.com
    • add contact Tim B to the Live Track list of contacts
    • Tim B changes his email address to Tim@ tacx.com
    • update the phone contact to the correct email address
    • ***contact stored in Live Track list does not update/sync automatically***
    • ***unable to edit or delete contact Tim B in Live Track pool***
    • ***unable to select updated contact in phone as already selected***

i haven’t tried completely deleting the contact from the phone, but hey, you shouldn’t have to do that either.

  • Hi again Tim

I can delete Recipients (email addresses)  from LiveTrack by swiping the email address to the left (or right it seems). Likewise I can delete LiveTrack contacts added from the GCM contact list by swiping.

If I add a contact from my phone contacts to the GCM list of contacts, I can likewise delete that contact from the GCM Contacts by swiping it. i.e. delete if from what you referred to as the "pool of contacts", which I assume is GCM Contacts.

So I assume that to refresh a contact in the LiveTrack list of contacts, you would delete it from the LiveTrack list of Recipients, delete from the GCM Contacts by swiping and then add it again to GCM Contacts once you have updated the contact on your phones contact list. From there you would then be able to add the updated contact to LiveTrack Recipients.

    1. It assumes that the swipe to delete Contact is working for you.

    2. It seems very clumsy!

I have tried it and on my phone it works.

  • Hi

thanks for the explanation, unfortunately for me, sweeping on the pool of contacts does not delete the entry. If the check box is ticked, i get asked if i want to remove the contact, but all it does is uncheck the box. Screen shots below of my list of contacts imported from my phone contacts. Doesn't matter how hard, slow, fast etc i try, i can't swipe to delete,  frustrating!

  • Next I tried deleting the GCM app, clearing the app cache data and reinstalling the app, re-pairing the 530, strangely, all the contacts are still in there, and still wrong!

  • Frustrating indeed Tim.

The only thing I can add is that in the second of your screenshots, in the Edit Recipients screen, if I was to tap (not swipe) on the contact with the checkbox ticked (i.e. Home from your example) I get a popup box that says "Remove Recipient?" with Cancel or Remove as the choices. Selecting Remove removes that contact from the recipients list.

UI interaction to delete seems inconsistent across different screens.
