Connect won't talk to MyFitnessPal since disastrous Connect update/crash/delete/reinstall/delete again/reinstall again

So frustrating, Garmin sends out a faulty update and now things suck.

I noticed that though today's activity did sync from my watch and appear on Garmin Connect, it didn't get sync'd with MyFitnessPal and so there were no "Exercise Calories" that appeared in MyFitnessPal (MFP).

I tried to sync to MFP through Connect, but it said, "Linking accounts failed, CANCEL or TRY AGAIN"  when I pressed the Link Account big button in Connect.

Prior to the disastrous update, it all worked fine.

I cleared the cache on MFP. Before I clear the data and/or uninstall MFP (I have years of data there I don't want to lose, and besides, what a pain in the neck to set everything up again in a 2nd app (MFP) like I had to do when I deleted/reinstalled Connect) - any ideas please?

Thanks -

  • yes, disconnected the MFP account from the GC before deleting it. and couldn't find where to connect

On the same place where you disconnected it in the old account Wink

Find some detailed MFP troubleshoting instructions for example here:

well i disconnected mfp from the apps tab on the webpage. and when i try to re-connect it just fires up GC and the only option is re-connect (to the old account)

am i being dim and missing something?! will check out the trouble shooting but the problem seems to be that i need garmin to forget the old account and connect to a new one and i can't see where to do that. as the only option is reconncect.

thanks for your help though trux

just checked that link, yes seen that and hasn't answered the question

  • I believe there is OAuth running on the browser. You need to be able to click on Connect to MyFitnessPal

Accept the privacy agreement, then be able to see the popup requesting your myfitnesspal Username and password, otherwise it may be going to the wrong account, without any user input.

In order to get this to work for me, I used Firefox rather than my typical Edge Chromium.

YES! got it, thanks both for the replies. I actually did it in the GC app in the end under settings partner apps and that allowed me to specify the MFP account to log in to. But basically as you suggested seilogramp.

i suspect that's may be what you were suggesting trux but i was doing the wrong thing. thanks again

i guess now i will find out all the reasons people moan about the sync between these 2 apps - it is already syncing from MFP to GC but not the other way.

  • it is already syncing from MFP to GC but not the other way.

And what happens when you click the link Sync Now on the page Calories In/Out of Garmin Connect?

MFP still thinks i only burnt 47 calories from exercise yesterday which came from the iphone step count. it hasn't updated that or sync-ed with my exercise from GC
