Connect won't talk to MyFitnessPal since disastrous Connect update/crash/delete/reinstall/delete again/reinstall again

So frustrating, Garmin sends out a faulty update and now things suck.

I noticed that though today's activity did sync from my watch and appear on Garmin Connect, it didn't get sync'd with MyFitnessPal and so there were no "Exercise Calories" that appeared in MyFitnessPal (MFP).

I tried to sync to MFP through Connect, but it said, "Linking accounts failed, CANCEL or TRY AGAIN"  when I pressed the Link Account big button in Connect.

Prior to the disastrous update, it all worked fine.

I cleared the cache on MFP. Before I clear the data and/or uninstall MFP (I have years of data there I don't want to lose, and besides, what a pain in the neck to set everything up again in a 2nd app (MFP) like I had to do when I deleted/reinstalled Connect) - any ideas please?

Thanks -

Same problem here, using Garmin Connect and MFP on Android version 9. Cleared cache on both apps but really don't want to clear data on either as I have been using them for years. Connect gives me an error message that says "linking accounts failed". I just had to uninstall and reinstall Connect because it was crashing after the bad update. Really annoying how Garmin doesn't support their devices well.

  • Thanks for confirming it is potentially a system-wide problem, not just me.

I couldn't even, from within MFP, unlink from Connect, got a message like, "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that".

    Me: "WFT, why not??"

FWIW, not only did I uninstall/reinstall the Connect app, but also the MFP app. Connect lost all history, but the MFP app sync'd to the mother shop well and re-read loaded all the data.

  • Update here: I finally got MFP to "speak with" Garmin Connect, by:

    1) Deleting MFP app from phone

    2) Deleting Garmin Connect from phone

    3) Reinstalling MFP app to phone

    4) Reinstalling Garmin Connect to phone (lost all my history in Garmin Connect, nice).

    5) From MFP app: Unlinking from Garmin Connect

    6) From Garmin Connect: Linking to MFP

Thanks, Garmin for force-downloading a faulty update that has caused me to spend hours on line and in the forums trying to trouble shoot so I can simply get things back to they way they were, then re-entering all my personal data in both apps … except they are not the way they were because my Garmin Connect has lost all its history.

    Nice.

As of two minutes ago I had the same problem. However I just fixed it and its working fine.

    1. In MFP disconnect from Garmin Connect

    2. In Garmin Connect go into Settings

    3. Select Partner Apps

    4. Select MyFitnessPal

    5. Scroll to the bottom and select Disconnect

    6. Once disconnected try to reconnect and follow the prompts

This should relink the accounts together. It worked for me so hopefully it will work for you.

  • Your my hero!!! The My Partner Apps and disconnecting reconnecting did it finally (only took me 24hrs and getting to your post to get it done) but thank you so so much Clap

Hi, I have a similar problem but with a slight twist. I accidentally created 2 MFP accounts (don't ask!) and linked my garmin connect app to the wrong one. I've now deleted the 2nd wrong (MFP) account and unlinked everything but when i try to connect MFP and Garmin through the Garmin app using reconnect it's obviously trying to connect to the old (wrong 2nd) account. How do i get my garmin app or the webpage to forget that account and link a new MFP account?

  • Did you disconnect the MFP account from GC in the MFP settings, before deleting the account, and did you connect GC in the MFP settings of the other MFP account?

yes, disconnected the MFP account from the GC before deleting it. and couldn't find where to connect in MFP setting. normally in the app it send you to the garmin webpage which only has"re-connect" (to the old delted account) as an option
