4.19-rc10 won't run on Android 9

My phone updated earlier this morning to GCM 4.19-r10. Firstly, why the *** is something that from its version number appears to be a release candidate being pushed out through the Google play store. Secondly, when I try to run it, I just get an Android popup dialog telling me that Connect keeps stopping. When I reboot the phone, I get the "Connect keeps stopping" dialog multiple times.

The phone is a Pixel 2 running the latest monthly update of Android 9.

I can't understand how such big company  can release such "updates". Seems nobody cared to test it. Slight smile

Same here - Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 8.0.

It's very strange, that some others with S7 obviously don't have this problem.

No Chance here to open Garmin Connect. Reboot didn't help.

    One of the differences are:

    SM-G935FD: Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
    SM-G930F: Samsung Galaxy S

    OK. Thanks for clarification. I've only seen "S7". He in deed wrote "SM-G935FD" = S7 Edge  - and I have a "SM-G930F" = S7. That's the difference.

  • Same problem with Android 6 and my nexus 5

Reinstalled the app and now is working fine again.

Well, I hauled out my old phone, a Sony Z5C running LineageOS 14.1 (equivalent to Android 7.1), and when I updated the GCM app on it to from 4.18.1 to 4.19-rc10, the update worked OK without problem. I then uninstalled and reinstalled GCM on my Pixel, and after starting it up, logging in again, and pairing my devices again, it appears to be working OK there as well. So it looks like there is some problem with this version upgrading over the previous version as opposed to being a new install from scratch.

    Reinstall solve the problem.

  • For me, deleting data+cache helped.

OK. Thanks. Deleting data+cache also helped here.

This morning, I didn't want to try this, because of probably possible problems with connecting my fenix again and older settings. But now, I did it - and it worked without any problems.

But Garmin should solve the problem itself for all users. I makes no sense, always deleting data+cache and start again...

EDIT: Garmin settings are carried over. But nevertheless, you have to check all settings - and specially the Smart Notifications for apps have to be choosen again. So: It works, but "no good job" @ Garmin...
