Update Bluetooth Connection in Connect Mobile for Android

Starting with the 3.11 release of Garmin Connect Mobile for Android, we have introduced an option to update the Bluetooth connection from within the Connect Mobile application to use the native Android Bluetooth system pairing. For instructions on updating please see the link listed here.

Please feel free to leave feedback in this thread.
  • Same problem on a Lenovo P2.

Pairing goes without problems. Connecting and syncing doesn't work.
Connection drops and reconnects all the time.

Garmin Support told me to wait on an update on the Garmin Connect app. And thats it :(

Same problem here. Using Nokia 7 Plus with FR235. The connection work only the first time be paired. Never re-connect again.

    Reboot phone, not working
    Reboot watch, not working.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 230 and a Nokia 6.1 and have the same problem. Pairing works but when trying to reconnect (e.g. after getting back in bluetooth range) it does not work.

I tried it with a Pixel XL (Android 8.1) and it works. So it is not an Android 8.1 issue.

How is the support workflow here?

    Thanks,

    Stefan
  • Garmin don't seem bothered about fixing anything. My £500 Fenix5s won't connect to bluetooth, nor will my edge 25. Read the edge 1030 forum, £500 and the problems people are having is unbelievable. I won't be rushing to buy anymore of their substandard products again. Total rubbish.
  • I don't think the product is faulty, they just don't get the App stable. I really think the problem is in the mobile app and not the devices.
  • I beg to differ. I'm sure it's the phone itself that is the cause of most connectivity issues. There can be bluetooth and WiFi conflicts. There are modifications that vendors (like Huwai) do to their versions of android that can also cause issues.

I had numerous connectivity issues with my old ZTE ZMax 2 but it has been incredibly solid with my Asus Zenfone 3.

That age old mantra is worth nothing. Even less so with modern Android. Countless products successfully build and improve continously on android bluetooth and wifi. Garmin just isn't willing to put the work in that's needed. Plain and simple. Some guy decided they really need that hapless Wifi/Bluetooth/Location data mix present at pair time and they just do not get it to work because such a convoluted process is overkill and far from the intended purpose of the several interacting protocols. But if they can't do it their specific way some excel sheet won't be filled by nice numbers that can then be presented as "x activations per month" or similar at the next meeting. Its NOT Huawei or any other Manufacturers' fault. Don't fall for that bull. If it were, the idea of building an app on a ecosystem like Android is a false premise from the start. More importantly, today its Huawei or ZTE that's suddenly failing. What about Asus changes something tomorrow and do not change it back? Is this the kind of aftersales support you really want? Also, why do millions upon millions similar apps/devices work and continue to work?

I have exactly the same issue on my Nokia 6.1 (Android One 8.1.0) with a Fenix 3HR watch. It seems the problem lies within the bluetooth implementation in some phones. Google updated the pixel's bluetooth implementation that seemed to have fixed a lot of their bt issues. Unfortunately nokia didn't (yet?).

Nothing much we can do at the moment. I'm still somewhat lucky in that my fenix 3hr has wifi built in. In can at least sync my runs on the go when I turn on a wifi hotspot on my phone. No notifications though.
  • I have the same problem (like other people) with a BQ aquaris X pro and oreo 8.1.0, the gps of the edge series connect without problems, those of the Fenix series there is no way to connect to the phone app.
We continue without solution and it seems that it goes for a while .....
  • I have a login problem, OnePlus 5T (oreo 8.1.0) + vivoactive 3, it's been 2 months old! A green ball is on the phone, but no warnings from the phone! I noticed that when the internet is connected, the connection is restored.
The same thing happens with other phones, such as Samsung 6S (android 7), the same situation.
  • Nokia just pushed the may update for the Nokia 6.1. I installed it, and this update fixed my connection issue. My fenix 3hr now connect and reconnects just fine.

This was the may security update for oreo 8.1.0 + stability updates and some ui updates according to the description

Glad it fixed this bt issue.
