Starting with the 3.11 release of Garmin Connect Mobile for Android, we have introduced an option to update the Bluetooth connection from within the Connect Mobile application to use the native Android Bluetooth system pairing. For instructions on updating please see the link listed here.

    Hi,

I did BT update. But still missing any notifications except phone call. I reset everything, reinstall Garmin App, Pair with device, Approved notification and app authorities. All notification worked successfuly. But after approximately one day, only phone call notification work. If I reset everything, work again but only for while (one day...)
    Any idea?

Update Bluetooth Connection in Connect Mobile for Android
Starting with the 3.11 release of Garmin Connect Mobile for Android, we have introduced an option to update the Bluetooth connection from within the Connect Mobile application to use the native Android Bluetooth system pairing. Updating to system level pairing may resolve any issues currently experienced with Bluetooth connection or syncing with your phone.

    To update your Bluetooth connection:

Open Connect Mobile application on compatible Android phone
    Select (Menu)
Scroll down and select Garmin Devices
Press and hold on the device you wish to pair using system level Bluetooth pairing
    Select Update Connection
Enter the pairing code displayed on the Garmin device in the Bluetooth prompt on the phone
Once the device has re-paired itself, the connection update is complete. If you experience issues when using this updated Bluetooth pairing, you can easily revert back to pairing within Connect Mobile only.

To revert back to original Connect Mobile Bluetooth pairing:

Open Connect Mobile application on compatible Android phone
    Select (Menu)
Scroll down and select Garmin Devices
Press and hold on the device you wish to remove system level Bluetooth pairing from
    Select Remove Device
Doing the above should also remove the device from the phones native Bluetooth settings. This can be verified by going into your phone Bluetooth settings menu and looking under Paired Devices. Once you have verified this, the Garmin device will need to be re-paired in Connect Mobile.

Note: This option is only available on phones running Android 5.0 and above.

Benefits to doing this change? A bit nervous to change the pairing setup.... its finally working stable for the most part.
  • never mind... based on what I can tell I'm already using the Native (since I don't have the option to 'update connection')

only have option to 'cancel' -- 'remove device' -- 'sync'

I'm using my F3 (production sw) with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 running on Android 5.0.2 LRX22G/Miui 8 EU stable 8.0.1.0(LHMCNDG) and have no issues with receiving smart notifications. After one of the app updates, I noted that I was not receiving all smart notifications I set up previously. I checked details in the app and it was strange that not all type of notifications were set I previously selected. So had to re-select them. You might also check your settings.

    - In your Connect app on your phone tap the 3 bar icon near top left or simply swipe from the left screen edge to right.
    - Scroll down to settings and select it.
    - Look for smart notifications and tap on it. From there you can select what notifications to show on your F3.

P.s.After each sw update I reboot my phone and soft reset (power off/on) my F3 as well and never had any issues.

I'm really curious to learn what effect this system level bluetooth connection is supposed to have. Hopefully someone at Garmin can elaborate or maybe someone can share his experience with it?
I just set it myself. No problems so far, but it's a bit early to give a reliable report. I'll update this post if I find anything noteworthy.

    - I'll keep an eye on battery usage (using a widget with a histogram).
    - One nice thing so far I noticed is that on my android phone smart lock becomes available. Will see how well that works with a BLE device...
    - I wonder if the music widget can now interact with the current app playing music, instead of only the one you set in 'default music player'
  • "Bluetooth Troubleshooting" notification

Does this have anything to do with the "Bluetooth Troubleshooting" notification I've been getting since the last update? It's been driving me crazy as it continuously notifies me of how to fix bluetooth issues when my Edge 520 is off. I've re-paired it 3 times and nothing seems to help...

    Hi

    I join in.
I also have fenix3 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 [Android 5.1.1 LMY47V + MIUI Global 7.1 (stable) 7.17.9.0(LHOCNCL)] and I have the same problem. If I reset the phone, install and configure all the apps, Garmin Connect Mobile works properly one day. I have noticed that after that time I can't set notifications in Garmin Connect Mobile (Menu/Settings/Smart notifications). I switch them on but if I leave the window they automatically switch off.
    Has someone any good advise?

    Thanks for help.
  • This is not working for me. I am using a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact that was recently updated to Android Nougat 7.0. I've never tried this Bluetooth Update before, because there was no reason, since all notifications and functionality were working fine. Since updating my phone to Nougat, I've had issues with notifications not arriving on my Vivoactive HR, so I tried this update to fix the problem. I can long-press on the Vivoactive HR device listing in Garmin Connect and choose Update Connection. This causes the phone to bring up a Bluetooth pairing prompt, asking for a PIN, but the Vivoactive HR doesn't change at all, including showing me a PIN.

I'm guessing this is a Nougat problem. Either way, it is annoying that I am no longer receiving notifications like I should.

    Pairing issue Android 7

I've had the same problem since updating the same phone to Android 7. My phone, however, will not pair to my 520 at all.
