Update Bluetooth Connection in Connect Mobile for Android

Starting with the 3.11 release of Garmin Connect Mobile for Android, we have introduced an option to update the Bluetooth connection from within the Connect Mobile application to use the native Android Bluetooth system pairing. For instructions on updating please see the link listed here.

Please feel free to leave feedback in this thread.

    I'm experiencing the same problem, My S9 won't sync with my Forerunner 620 no matter what I do.
  • I cannot connect my two Bq aquaris X-pro, after the android oreo 8.1 update.

    I connect garmin fenix 5X to one and garmin fenix 3 to another.

    None of the work after i loose connection.

    I need to clear app cache and data, then bluetooth cache and data, and pair the watches again... but when i get out range they don't connect anymore (fenix 3 and fenix 5x).

    I have the latest firmware in fenix 3 and the last beta in fenix 5x.

    So far i have:
    1) hard reset both watches;
    2) hard reset both phones;
    3) turned on connect aid;
    4) turned off connect aid;
    5) turn on and off the baterry optimization on the phones in the connect iq app and bluetooth app;
    Etc, etc...

    Nothing works....
    Both watches connected well before the android oreo 8.1.0 update.

    Bq Aquaris phones have allmost a stock android version.

    I had garmin fenixs since the version 3 came out and always Bq phones.... This has happened before in the last 3 or 4 years... It is always solved by a watch firmware update or a connect mobile update.

    I have a very similar problem, even though with Garmin FR235 and a BQ Aquaris X Pro too officially updated to Android 8.1... Everything was working just fine previously :-(
  • I talked to Bq. They told me they trying to solv the problem.

    Until then, they told me that garmin connect mobile 3.20.3 works.

    I've tryed it, and it really works without any problem.

    It connects the fenix 5x when you get out of range and return again (the latest version of garmin connect mobile never connected again until you pair and unpair the watch from the phone)

    It even connects the watch without internet, but obviously just the calls and SMS (good when you travel and don't want to use mobile data to reconnect the watch and the phone...)

    Here is the link to download garmin connect mobile 3.20.3:

    I finally got mine to work, using a different approach:

    - In the phone settings, "Forget" the Forerunner 235 bluetooth device
    - In the phone, turn off bluetooth
    - In the watch, turn off bluetooth
    - Restart phone
    - Restart watch
    - Enable bluetooth on the phone
    - On the watch, Menu -> Settings -> Bluetooth -> Pair...
    - On the phone, open Garmin Connect and Add new device
    - Follow steps, asked to insert 6 digit PIN showing on the watch in system bluetooth prompt
    - Inserted the 6 digits PIN
    - Phone and watch connected, and a few seconds later they were correctly paired, and synching

    Watch: Garmin FR 235 with v7.70 firmware
    Phone: BQ Aquaris X Pro 4Gb/64Gb with Android 8.1.0 Oreo

    I have a google pixel 2 running Android 8.1.0, and a vivoactive 3 music, and cannot get my phone and watch to pair through the connect app. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, changing the method of connection within Garmin Connect and rebooting both devices, and nothing has worked. The watch shows up in my phone's bluetooth menu as a recognized device, and when I go into the watch, it will occasionally say it is connected to my phone, but garmin connect does not register the connection and sometimes gives me an error message. Is there a fix for this yet? It's quite frustrating.

    My Vivofit 4 clocked 17,000 plus steps by 9pm yesterday. I went to sync at 10ish and the steps listed were just over 4,000 HUH?

    I went to Garmin Connect App and my steps were just over 9,000. Again; Huh? What happened? Why did the watch have 4,000 +? I couldn't even get them to upload AND the watch wouldn't count anymore steps last night.

    Thought all would correct overnight as before. But my Garmin Connect App still has the 9,000 plus for yesterday's steps.

    IM IN A FITNESS CONTEST. Only the 9,000 got transmitted to my other app. THE 17,000 steps I worked hard for wont be counted. CANT GET CREDIT FOR STEPS WITHOUT AT LEAST A SCREENSHOT.

    Can You Garmin Look Into This WEIRD GLITCH?
    I'm becoming more and more disheartened. Seems the sync is off every 2 weeks and I've only had this device 6 weeks. This time it's costing me.
  • and this relates to your bluetooth connection - how? Also, don't expect an answer from Garmin here. I suggest you call tech support. Most of the time, they're excellent.

    Hello i have a xiomiM5 with oreo and fenix3HR. my fenix connected to my phone in bluetooth. i accorded all acces for the apps in garmin connect.
    Weather widget arrives to request information but no notification widget ?

    remarks : i try with my honor androdi 7.1 and the apps asked me "smart notification" but not with my xiaomi

    SOLUTION : go to "user Program" -> notification acces -> Garmin connect " smart notification"
  • So glad to have found this topic. I have downloaded the older version of the app and now my 935 will stay connected to my Ulefone S9 on Oreo 8.1. When I got in touch with Garmin they categorically started it was the manufacturers fault but when I asked what the fault is I just got a theory of something it could be. So just trying to wash their hands and blame someone else. Hopefully I will be able to update the app at some point in the future as it is a bit archaic in comparison but at least one of the basic features now works again.

  • Hello all.
    Let's see if i can make this post without any rage attack.

    I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, and at the same time i have a Forerunner 235 and a Edge 820. I have connect them to GCM 4.11 (latest version) but after a few hours they loose the connection to the phone.
    Maybe you will say :"That's your phone problem", and i say "NO IT's NOT", because if i go to my car, the phone connects to him normally... but the Garmin's don't connect again.
    The only solution that i have to obtain again the connection to the Forerunner 235 or Edge is rebooting the phone.

    I would try the old version of GCM 3.X but that version is not compatible with Edge 820, so that's not a option.

    Having this kind of Garmin's devices and can't use them with this features, i felt that i have been robbed by Garmin.

    I continue to say, if there are so much people complaining on this in such different phones, the problem must be on Garmin Connect Mobile (Android)
