Garmin, please add Google Pay Support to your watches!

I know there is Garmin Pay, but at least in Germany its almost unusable. Works only with a third-party service called "Vimpay". You have to manually transfer money from your bank-account to Vimpay and then you just manually transfer money from Vimpay to the Garmin Pay Wallet. Nobody wants pre-paid Wallets anymore in 2018 and this manual actions are totally unnecessary.
  • my bank don't support garmin pay i would like to use prepaid .Do you know if I can use vimpay if I am from Poland ?
  • Joe, GooglePay while the concept of Tokenization and NFC payments also apply, is a completely different technology and won't work with the Garmin watches. I understand the manual top up is cumbersome for you but direct debit would put us into risk (direct debit can be called back ) and we want vimpay to work with every bank. How about you try a standing order? You need to set this up once with your bank account and you are done.

Jan, the problem is the legitimation in this case. Our no Legitimation version (standard) does currently not apply for Poland (this is why vimpay is not published there) but with the (non free) premium Version it will also work for you.
  • In Poland we have very limited banks only 4i believe
  • Garmin Pay works almost nowhere outside the US. Almost no banks support it. It's a joke.

  • To be fair in New Zealand most of the retailers don’t even have Apple Pay despite the banks; and my bank doesn’t; do Garmin Pay.

  • Actually, in Europe I use Garmin Pay with the Revolut card. It is prepaid, but that is great safety. And the touch and pay wireless POS devices don’t need to specifically support Garmin pay. As long as they support contactless payment, indicated by the WiFi like symbol, Garmin Pay will work. Always and without fail has for me in a number of countries and stores.

  • Interesting, there seems to be a lot of variation in how banks implement Garmin Pay. My bank (in the Netherlands) supports it via a kind of 'symbolic credit card' that is linked to my bank balance (all accounts including savings). You can't set a limit on what you spend with Garmin Pay. Unlikely as it may seem, it scares me that someone could rip my watch from my wrist, quickly slap it on their own, and as long as the thing detects a heartbeat, they'll be able to go fun shopping for the rest of the day on my account, without a PIN code and without a limit.

To add safety, I considered opening a separate account at another bank for Garmin Pay only. I'd like to be able to use Garmin Pay, as many shops support it. On the other hand it is not too much bother to take a bank card along. At least you can set the limit for PIN-code-less transactions on that.

  • Hm, only in Ukraine it works with pretty much all major banks. For EU it should work with Revolut / Transferwise

  • Doesn't work in singapore. I hope they replace their garbage payment system to google pay before we replacing Garmin with other compatible payment brands

  • Year, why not simply adding google pay? This request has been done already 2 years ago, however garmin was meanwhile still not able to either get more common banks isupported nore adding generally command known googlepay working - Add Paypal, do something!
