Garmin Connect can't connect on Android Pie

Just upgraded OnePlus 6 to Android Pie. Uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Connect. (rebooted phone and watch several times) Trying to pair with Forerunner 235. I select my device have the watch in "Ready to Pair" and click "Search For Device". Garmin Connect finds the Forerunner 235, and the watch says "Connecting", and Garmin Connect says "Setting up device...", but I'm getting the "Connecting to device failed" message.

Anyone else having this issue? Just started today with Android 9

Hi, I had the same problem with my Oneplus 6.

The theme is that Android Pie brings different improvements to optimize the operation of the battery, these improvements minimize the operation of the App in the background.

    I have worked the following:

    1.- Forget the Garmin SMARTWACTH
2.- Go to Settings OnePlus 6, specifically to applications and notifications,.... go give all permissions to the app Garmin Conect, Inluso you have to allow this app to make changes to the system.
3.- In Garmin Conect, re-link the smartwatch.

After this it works without problem.

Greetings, I hope I have helped you all.

    Pablo.-

None of that worked for me. I don't know if it is Oneplus as well so I reached out to them. They have a bug finder person on it.

Thanks! It helped, though I had to clear cache as well.

I could connect again after having the app to forget my forerunner 235 but that only lasted for two hours or so. Now it is the same again. Do you still have a connection with your mobile after a few hours?

Ok. So now I have a connection. I had to pair it once more. I don't understand why because I haven't "unpaired" it but I think it must have something to do with bluetooth and the new Android version. Hopefully it is a bug they will solve within a few days.

I am having the same issue with one plus 6 . Sorted out the whole notifications bit . Notifications recieving fine . But Garmin connect looses connection with the watch randomly. When i open the app it connects to the watch automatically . But this time it stops sending the notifications again . After restarting the phone . The notification appear again .

  • This worked for me, for vivoactive 4. Thanks!
