LiveTrack, & GroupTrack Issues

My wife and I have been having problems with LiveTrack "blue screen" when viewing map linked through email request, viewing each other with group track is non-functional on both edge 1000's and having to manually stop live track within GCM Android. We get email notifications from each other when live track starts, but map is blue screen “off the coast of Africa”.
We both have Edge 1000’s and Samsung 7s with all updates. We have checked settings on all devises and started LiveTrack as per Garmin’s instructions. Have tried factory resting both Edge 1000's and removing and reinstalling GCM, all with no change in conditions.
Has been going on for a couple of weeks.
  • Just spoke to Garmin and the very helpful person I spoke to wasn't aware of the problem but he checked with the technical department and then read out a statement to me. Basically what I believe he said to me was Facebook Live track had been removed at the moment due to changes because of the recent privacy changes face book have made and are making. There was no indication when this might be available again by the same rule there was no indication that it wouldn't be. I did ask if this could be made known to all Garmin users and the gent did say he would see what could be done. I have tried the Twitter facility but it doesn't seem to be as good as the face book one, not tried the email tracker yet as I cant get my head round how much data this may use.

I read this from somewhere few weeks ago. Yes, FB has got rid of this due to security problems that they are having. Someone found a loop hole, meaning it can tweet then forward that Livetrack to FB, but they was not working anymore from IFTT service or something like that.

Email tracking sends an email with a link. Clicking that link enables the recipient to track you in a web browser. I wouldn't expect that to transfer a significantly different amount of data.

I've never tried Facebook (or Twitter) tracking. Did it do something other than provide a link?

  • The Facebook link was a live tracker which anyone you allowed could follow straight from their Facebook page it was very good, easy to use and very reliable. Twitter is okay but my wife struggles with it, not certain where the fault lye's there.
  • Hi Marc, just being nosey did you update last night and did it sort the problem?

Sorry for the late reply, I guess I had forum notification turned off.

Yes I did update and it does work. I have held off on taking the latest Android update thiugh. I'm poking around the forums to see if it breaks anything.
  • Thats interesting, but it doesnt work for me . On top of that i have the following probelm now which I have posted elswhere. ----------I reported this a in September and I was asked to reboot the watch, made no diffrence and now it is getting worse. this coupled with the fact I cant be tracked when out exercising via Facebook anymore (which worked perfectly) makes me want to return the watch. I will try and ring then again but while they always seem very intrested at Garmin they seem to be problem takers and not able to resolve anyhthing. I have tried being tracked using te Twitter and email feeds but they are very unrelaible. I have gone from thinking the Gramin was the right choice to thinking I made a massive mistake.

Been trying to get live track to work with no avail. Finally took some time, found version 4.8, uninstalled 4.13.8 and installed 4.8. Started live track and it worked instantly. I was having "trying to reconnect" issues and showed my in Africa. I spend a lot of time in the backcountry of maine solo and feel better having a few people able to track and see me. I don't know why this is so hard for garmin to fix but figured i'd post and report that 4.8 worked for me. Running a Quatix 3 and a Galaxy S9+.

I updated to 4.15 this morning and it worked fine , maybe give it a bash as the last version to not give me any problems was 4.8
  • Live track is working okay for me now and has been for sometime, I use the email facility rather than Twitter but neither are as good as the Facebook tracker was. It does occasionally throw a wobbler but I think that might just be I haven't set it up right before I go. Its V02 Max I cant get my head round although I have had good advice from other members of the forum just need to sit down and figure it out. Phone the help desk and they were next to useless.
  • I tried 4.15 yesterday on two short test activities with my VivoActive 3. Both worked. I'll test with my Edge 520 next week when I have time to get out for a ride. So far, so good.
