All Smart Notifications turned on in latest update (4.2)

My Garmin Connect updated last night to version 4.2. This morning I started noticing my watch was getting more notifications than I usually get. I looked at the notifications and saw I was getting Facebook alerts. Hmm, I know I had that turned off. I went into the Smart Notification setting and saw that the menu has changed, and that "All Applications" had been turned on! Not what I want at all. I turned that off and ticked off the few applications that I wanted on. Before the applications used to be sorted (Email, Message, etc.). Now it just seems to be one long list of all the apps.

When is this going to be sorted?? Keeps reverting to All Notifications! Woke me and my wife up during the night. Haven't seen a thing from Garmin on this.
  • Every day a new update...
The last time, all of my apps where activated. Then I selected the needed ones and it was fine on my HTC10.
Today´s update resets this working setup to... something...
I expect some kind of a preset, because many popular apps were activated, but all none-international (Telegram, Threema, Blitzer.de) has been deactivated.

As always, there is no possibility, that this update was tested :(

Glad I found this, my vivoactive has been draining its battery in less than half the normal time, struggles to sync, and if I reset it I get notifications only until I clear them, then I don't get any further ones. I was looking into buying a new device thinking mine was just at the end of its time! This update is a disaster! Trying to revert back to 4.19 to see if that takes care of it, but this has been a long few days!

  • I had considerable problems with GCM 4.20 on both my Fenix 3 and Vivoactive. I did rollback to 4.1.9 in order to get back my email and other critical notifications. When they released 4.2.2, I gave it another go and it was successful with notifications and with syncing on both models (FYI, I'm running Android 6.0.1). I am running the latest FW 4.40 on the Vivoactive and have not seen an unusual battery drain. I agree, this GCM update has been the biggest train wreck that Garmin has ever unleashed on virtually their entire wearables user base. While I seem to have gotten lucky with my wearable models, I have friends with the FR935 and they haven't seen any relief from the updates.

I suggest opening a case with Garmin and giving them all your hardware and version details. This debacle doesn't look to be over anytime soon and your configuration and experiences might be helpful in getting joy for everyone.

4.1.11 is king if you want a functional app... thankful for online APKs
  • Samsung A3 2016 Android 7.0
    Fenix 5x 7.60
    No notifications from GCM Itself,Ie:
    No invitations.
    No results
    No reminders
    No updates
    Connection requests
    Comments etc etc...
All are being relayed to the phone but not the watch after.
GCM is relaying notifications from other apps, just not its own.

Also if i choose to archive a notification, say from Outlook,it will be wiped from watch memory and all other stored notifications also wiped.
(Press back instead and i keep archived notifications.)

Also on watch start up, I see" Maps loading"
screen, but the loading progress bar is now stagnant and shows no progress.

Also no reconnect /disconnect Bluetooth sound vibe or text. Nothing.
    (Does it in background.)

Bring default music player back please, not nice to have to open the app I want first.
    Thankyou.
    All the best,(good luck)
    Sam.
  • "This GC Update has never been tested on a real device, under proper circumstances, I guess"
    - most painfully is notification about loosing of cellphone signal. Is really annoying when you travel to job (and back to home) by underground and between each of stations your smart watch vibrate and tell you "No signal - name of mobile operator" - Best thing is you are not able to disable it! The only option is disable all notifications called "phone" (include SMS, incoming calls, missed calls). I don't understand how in Garmin tests GC updates..

Hi, anyone tried the 4.2.2 or later version yet? Or anyone knows if it is okay the update Garmin Connect on mobile yet?

    Thanks
  • I tried the latest version and got my notifications to work again, including Outlook, but my weather widget wasn't working most of the time. I didn't have a sync problem at all with any version so I'm not sure if that is fixed yet for anyone having that problem.

Doesn't work for me (OnePlus 3T/Oreo with Vivosmart HR+). It seems to work for a short while, but then won't work unless rebooting the phone. I have had to revert to 4.1.11 and switch off updates to get back to a stable situation. (There are several other threads where others document similar experiences). I have been in email contact with Garmin support but they do not seem to have acknowledged the issue as yet. I believe that it may work for some.
