All Smart Notifications turned on in latest update (4.2)

My Garmin Connect updated last night to version 4.2. This morning I started noticing my watch was getting more notifications than I usually get. I looked at the notifications and saw I was getting Facebook alerts. Hmm, I know I had that turned off. I went into the Smart Notification setting and saw that the menu has changed, and that "All Applications" had been turned on! Not what I want at all. I turned that off and ticked off the few applications that I wanted on. Before the applications used to be sorted (Email, Message, etc.). Now it just seems to be one long list of all the apps.

Yeah there is discussion about the changes with the music player settings as well.
  • When using more than one Garmin device, please send all notifications to all of them. After the update, with 2 devices, each received half of the notifications.
Thanks Garmin for responding here, and the hard work that goes into fixing this is much appreciated!
  • Just checked my phone. I can turn on/off each app for notifications, as I choose.

Yes, I've worked out what was going on now. The notification setting in the Device menu was Calls or All Notifications. However, the update looks like it had enabled everything in the Smart Notification menu under Settings.

  • Can we look at battery drain also, as per another thread on here.
My phone was nearly dead when I got in, very unusual, and Connect was the highest hitter.
Someone else reported the same issue.

I was fortunate that my wife hadn't updated, so backed up her apk and installed old version.
  • Thanks Garmin-Joey . I think the standard Android clock app might be the simplest with which to test. It gives a 2-hour "upcoming alarm" notification prior to an alarm. This - and the more urgent "alarm sounding" - used to work very well before the change in question. Now the Garmin app sends none of this to my vivosmart HR.
If you'd like any further information or tests carried out please feel free to ask and I'll do what I can.

Yes, i had this battery drain issue as well when using v4.2. Garmin Connect process awake almost every minutes.

I have send a report for the battery issue via Android app reporting tool

Rollback to v4.1.9 solve my battery drain and notification issues
  • Also no sound alerts are comming from my watch, for instance,no vibe or sound for reconnect Bluetooth and disconnected Bluetooth,(out of range etc)

Also not able to keep alert settings from reverting back for goal activity.
    No smart notifications at all.
I've just hit the top of the Iceberg!
Glad I've reverted to an earlier version of connect, and everything is working again.
    What a horrible mess!!
I wish this update had been tested sufficiently.
    How embarrassing for Garmin....wow....

I fell victim to the update to 4.2. I spent a couple days trying to figure out why my email notifications weren't getting push to my Vivoactive with no success. After reading this forum I uninstalled 4.2 and went back to 4.1.9. My email notifications is back to working again. It is disappointing that Garmin did not fully test out the new update.
  • This is the blog which will tell you about rooting the phone
