All Smart Notifications turned on in latest update (4.2)

My Garmin Connect updated last night to version 4.2. This morning I started noticing my watch was getting more notifications than I usually get. I looked at the notifications and saw I was getting Facebook alerts. Hmm, I know I had that turned off. I went into the Smart Notification setting and saw that the menu has changed, and that "All Applications" had been turned on! Not what I want at all. I turned that off and ticked off the few applications that I wanted on. Before the applications used to be sorted (Email, Message, etc.). Now it just seems to be one long list of all the apps.
  • I turned off my notifications and this basically makes the watch less useful.

Then why did you do so?
I deactivated only those, which I don´t need (which was a lot) and now it works like before.

It was only annoying, that it was not documented anywhere and I was over-flooded with hundreds of push messages, until I found out what was changed.
  • You should delete new version from mobile (GCM 4.2) and download an old one (4.1.9) for ex. here: http://apk.co/garmin/garmin-connect-mobile-419
and enabeld it in mobile for the instalation.
Next pair the watch with GCM.
The best is to send it from PC to mobile by email (gmail), then click and install.
If you do not delete 4.2, it will not work correctly, resp. it will not run.
NOW WORKS WELL AS BEFORE!!!! Uff, I am happy and angry to garmin FOR NO TESTING NEW RELEASES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou very much for your post and useful link! :-)
I have notifications again !(no vibe though, may work in a while)
I've just phoned garmin back and pointed them to these posts,so they understand" their" problem now.
I expect they'll have a fix out soon that will break something else.......for someone else.

If i hear the words "master reset" from the tech team one more time...!#$?! Lol.
    Thanks again!
    All the best....
  • For me, it wasn't just an inconvenience in having to go in and toggle off all the app notifications that I didn't want. If that was the only problem with this update I would have been fine with that. But this update actually broke my Outlook notifications so I wasn't able to get any notifications for email or calendar events from my phone. That's no good. I had to go back a version to get that back.

DAPE-BRNO thanks for the link. That's the one I used too. Forgot to tell folks to uninstall the current version so thanks for that also.

Because I'm only getting an option in the Connect App to only have All notifications, Phone only, or None.

Perhaps I'm missing something but unless I manually roll back the Garmin Connect version installed on my phone there's no longer a way to control individual apps notifications any more.

Uninstalled 4.2, reinstalled 4.1.9 and notifications work again. Had to re-pair my phone and go thru the annoying setup that failed over and over. But now it works, turned off auto-update.

The issue with all Smart Notifications defaulting to On after the update is being investigated. Along with the reports that some notifications are not displaying on devices even when turned on.

We will update this thread when new information is available. Thank you for the discussion and we apologize for any inconvenience in the mean time.
  • Garmin-Joey thank you! I knew you'd be on it.
  • Thanks, Garmin-Joey. I was wondering if you guys would be in to start tackling it today, or if you were off for the federal holiday. The weekend is a lousy time for a bug like that to get released. (Well, any time is a lousy time, but the weekend just delays the issue more) ;-)
  • Garmin-Joey you might look into the default music player being gone also. Since this new update there is no option to choose the default music player and it chooses the first app you had in your list of music players, which for me is Amazon Kindle, which isn't even a music player. And why was Rock My Run not listed as a music player? It's probably the most used running music app.
  • Hi,
I updated GCM this morning to v4.2 and ever since,
Ive not been able to receive any notifications from my mobile.( 7.0 android A3 2016) to my watch.(v7.10 5x)
I've never experienced this particular issue before.
Ive reinstalled GCM with no effect.
I informed Garmin, its been escalated to high priority.(Lol)
I had four weeks of relative bug free problems,
and new it was to good to last :-)
    reverted to an
earlier version, and back to normal.
At least its a known issue now.
