Android pairing problem

Hi, so since a few days, my Forerunner 235 wouldn't sync anymore with my phone. This has happened before so I deleted the device from my devices on Garmin Connect and tried to pair it back as that usually works. Now it won't pair anymore. It gets so far as to give me the passkey, but before I can type in the passkey in my phone, the watch goes back to "Ready to Pair" and gives me a new passkey, and so forth. On my phone it says "Timed out while connecting to device" over and over in red and "couldn't connect to Forerunner 235" in grey every time the passkey disappears again.

New passkeys keep showing and disappearing and sometimes I'm fast enough to type it, but it just does the same thing.

I've restarted both Forerunner and phone countless times, turned Bluetooth on and off, all in every order I can think of. It just won't pair back up. I have no idea what to do and I can't find this particular problem anywhere on the internet... help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • My Honor 6X Pro is on android 7.0 since few month and all was fine with the bluetooth pairing, SMS, calls and mail notification was perfect on my Forerunner 235.
Few days ago I updated my Forerunner 235 to 7.50 and then bluetooth pairing issues appears. I must try 10 times before having a pairing and when its ok it remains few minutes then bluetooth pairing goes away. Firmware 7.50 is guilty !!!
No problem with my Bose Bluetooth Speaker, no problem with my AKG Bluetooth headphone but only with my Forerunner 235 !!!
Garmin must fix it quickly !

I had this problem and only yesterday I was able to solve it.

In the first image we see the mobile phone regeitar the bluetooth connection

Then I went to the settings and clicked the last option, which helps in the connection.

I went to the settings of the bluetooth and paired, then I went to the GCM and looked for the foreerunner and then the connection worked!

I have the same problem also.

Thank you for the advice, this "Device Connection aid" option in the Settings seems to help things a little bit.
Now it shows the pin on the Fenix 3 for a few seconds, then goes back to "Ready to Pair" again. After a few seconds it asks for a new PIN but I never have time to write it in until it again disconnects and then asks for a new PIN.
I have a Huawei Honor 7 Lite and everything has worked fine until some updates to the watch in the last two weeks. Three updates all in all I think. Software is now 8.50.

I'll open a support ticket for this also, so that they might fix the software either in the Android app or in the watch.

    Hello,

I have a similar issue with Vivofit 2 or 3 devices and Garmin Connect on P9 lite. I can pair the Vivofit 2 or 3 with Garmin Connect, but sync does not work. The only workaround I found was to delete the device and pair it again to sync data. Not really convenient.
As the same issue occurs with 2 devices, I guess it comes from Garmin Connect or from Android, which were both upgraded recently.

    Regards
    Daniel

Hello. I have the same issue with my Forerunner 235 and P9LIte with Android 7. I could pair the 235, but a few days later i can't sync again. I tried deleting the 235 from de phone but i culdn't pair it again.
Do you know if there is other solution?

    Regards

    Marcelo
  • I have tried the solution above by ismael, but it didn't work for me.
I suggest to contact garmin support. The more tickets they open, the more likely will be that they work on a fix.

I am not sure though if this is really related to the fw or to gc app. The latest fw update was more than one week ago. And sync worked fine until yesterday. Gc app was updated two days ago. So maybe that is what caused the problem. I have version 4.0.7
  • I am not sure though if this is really related to the fw or to gc app.

In my opinion this is a Firmware issue because the problem occurs after the fw update of my FR235. No update of my android since months, no update of my Garmin Connect Mobile App (I had an old version)
I notice that a lot of problems occurs with Honor/Huawei Phones. But I was on android 7.0 for few month and no problem since the FR235 fw update. It worked before, so my phone was OK !!!
But there are some Samsung and iPhone (not Huawei/Honor) issue and a Fenix issue too (not FR235)...so who is guilty ???
  • You are right, it is either the firmware or a combination of fw+app.
i have installed today the apk of the gc app v3.20.3, which worked well for me. And i cannot pair anymore. I wonder if one can downgrade the fw?

Same issue here with my p9 lite, only difference is forerunner 230.
It was working fine since more than one year, then some days ago it stopped.
I removed the watch, removed the app, did an hard reset on the watch, reinstalled the app, still can't pair, I get the pairing loop.
Tried to pair with a Moto g 5 of a friend and it worked fine.
But he had the same issue with his Fenix and a his wife's Samsung.
Where can I file a bug report directly to garmin?
  • hi,
i have managed to pair again my p9 lite with my fr230.
i had two change these two settings:
    - p9 lite: settings -> bluetooth -> menu -> visibility timeout -> never time out
    - garmin connect app: settings -> device connection aid -> enable

then i have switched off and on bluetooth on both devices.
this way i managed to pair again phone and watch, using the usual procedure (watch in pair mode, and so on).

the connection is pretty unstable. gets connected and disconnected the whole time. i guess it will impact the battery, i do not know yet, i figured this out two hours ago.
but at least i could add again the device, sync sleep and steps, and managed also to configure some connectiq fields. i had to retry sometimes, because the connection gets lost from time to time.
