Android pairing problem

Hi, so since a few days, my Forerunner 235 wouldn't sync anymore with my phone. This has happened before so I deleted the device from my devices on Garmin Connect and tried to pair it back as that usually works. Now it won't pair anymore. It gets so far as to give me the passkey, but before I can type in the passkey in my phone, the watch goes back to "Ready to Pair" and gives me a new passkey, and so forth. On my phone it says "Timed out while connecting to device" over and over in red and "couldn't connect to Forerunner 235" in grey every time the passkey disappears again.

New passkeys keep showing and disappearing and sometimes I'm fast enough to type it, but it just does the same thing.

I've restarted both Forerunner and phone countless times, turned Bluetooth on and off, all in every order I can think of. It just won't pair back up. I have no idea what to do and I can't find this particular problem anywhere on the internet... help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • While the devices are connected everything works fine, smart notifications, SMS, music controls etc. no issue.
When the bluetooth connection is lost the GCM app never connects again with the mobile phone, I need to remove the GCM watch and pair again.

Things was better for me since few days but I have again the same issue...
I remember that before the issue, my FR235 was listed in the bluetooth list of my Honor 6X.
In my bluetooth menu I have two lists : "Associated device" and "Available device"
I just pair my FR235 (again !) with my H6X (it works !) but the FR235 doesnt appears in the "Associated device" on my bluetooth phone list. But I remember that my FR235 was there before !!!
  • Each time I do a new pairing with FR235, it restart with 12h parameter (I change it after to 24h) and the alarm "move" is always ON (I change it to OFF). Crazy...

    Fabrice,
you have to change the parameters in GC, not on your watch.
Open GC, click on your device picture on top right, then on device parameters (or Paramètres de l'appareil if your interface is in French ^^), then unselect "Alarme inv boug", then you click on "System" (Système), and change "Format d'heure".
it would stay this way then.

What does that say to you?

Hi ASmugDill, thank you for the opportunity to clarify my thoughts.
As English is not my native language, I might sometimes mix "it does not seem to be" and "it seems not to be". In that case, I assumed cmgomes71 was intending to says that it actually seemed to be a GC issue. Here, I make a difference between someone saying "it seems...", ant "it is for a fact that...".
Well, I see now that cmgomes71 is far more categorical now ^^

And when G declares in the matrix of compatibility, that my FR35 and my Huawei P9Lite are compatible (through GC I guess), I would say "no, not anymore, or not without specific unusual procedure for a BT connection, and not as well as before the updates of early November".
So, either Garmin changes this matrix, but it would not be fair to regress from "compatible" to "not tested" or "incompatible", or they should :
    - perform proper non-regression tests for the phones they declare are compatible, and at each update
    - keep their customers informed about the progress about the progress of the investigations (through official forums maybe ?)
    - try to repair their damaged image.

For one customer complaining here, how many are silent, and will be lost for G at the time they want to buy/offer a new watch ?
If I go in my local running/sport shop, I'll ask to the people there whether they got complains from customers about G lately.

I dont have this parameters on my GC smartphone App. I have only : "automaticaly load activities to Garmin Connect", "Forecast", "sounds", "Heart Rate on Wrist" and that's all... My GC App version is 4.1.11 Arer you sure you have this parameters at this place ???
I can only change it on the GC web app !!! And I save this parameters.
BUT when I do a new pairing, the values on GC web app are automatically restored to 12h/Move alarm ON !!!
I think that during the new pairing and the first sync, the watch send it's own default parameters to GC in order to set it to 12h/Move alarm ON !!!
Otherwise I dont understand how GC change it !!!

    Hi Fabrice,
I had this same issue, and those parameters (12h/activity bar) are the default parameters in GC, for any device you pair, until you change those parameters.... changing on in Garmin Connect won't do the thing, it will be reloaded at the first sync.
It's weird you can't see it on the screen where "heart rate on wrist" is, it is where is mine...
I do not think it is because I have a FR35 and not a FR235.... but I hope someone with a 235 can help !

Here is a screenshot of my GC App, watch parameters : no way to change 12h/move parameter...
  • You need to do it in the device settings on the connect web site.
