Android pairing problem

Hi, so since a few days, my Forerunner 235 wouldn't sync anymore with my phone. This has happened before so I deleted the device from my devices on Garmin Connect and tried to pair it back as that usually works. Now it won't pair anymore. It gets so far as to give me the passkey, but before I can type in the passkey in my phone, the watch goes back to "Ready to Pair" and gives me a new passkey, and so forth. On my phone it says "Timed out while connecting to device" over and over in red and "couldn't connect to Forerunner 235" in grey every time the passkey disappears again.

New passkeys keep showing and disappearing and sometimes I'm fast enough to type it, but it just does the same thing.

I've restarted both Forerunner and phone countless times, turned Bluetooth on and off, all in every order I can think of. It just won't pair back up. I have no idea what to do and I can't find this particular problem anywhere on the internet... help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • hi,
i have managed to pair again my p9 lite with my fr230.
i had two change these two settings:
    - p9 lite: settings -> bluetooth -> menu -> visibility timeout -> never time out
    - garmin connect app: settings -> device connection aid -> enable

then i have switched off and on bluetooth on both devices.
this way i managed to pair again phone and watch, using the usual procedure (watch in pair mode, and so on).

the connection is pretty unstable. gets connected and disconnected the whole time. i guess it will impact the battery, i do not know yet, i figured this out two hours ago.
but at least i could add again the device, sync sleep and steps, and managed also to configure some connectiq fields. i had to retry sometimes, because the connection gets lost from time to time.

i have just received the updated garmin connect app 4.1.5. i have reset the two changes above (BT times out again after 2 min; device connection aid is again disabled).

it managed to pair pretty fast and it has been working fine for the last hour. we'll see. i cross my fingers.

  • All works well for me now, pairing and bluetooth connection to download activities and receiving notifications.
Try to restart phone and FR watch, I had some problems first time after the new GC update.
  • I had restarted both the phone and the watch, and i have reset the phone and the watch. Nothing can make it works after the GC update.

Since last saturday, I paired my FR235 with P9 lite (Android 7.0) using the intructions indicated by lucky510. First, everything works ok. But then, I can syncronize FR with P9 only if a turn off WIFI a GPS on the phone. If not, few moments after starts syncronization, the link between watch and phone go down.
  • The same thing started yesterday for me with a Moto G (model XT1058) running Lineage OS - I forget the exact build, but I'd updated last in mid Oct. My 235 is still on firmware 7.10 . The initial sytem was my watch face, NoFrills switched to default configuration and I couldn't save changes to it.

I'd soft and hard reset my garmin, I'd updated Lineage to current weekly build, I'd removed and reinstalled GCM (including uninstalling and installing a known working version.

I only ended up getting things to work again by switching phones to my Moto X (better phone, but it's got a crap battery) which is running a Lineage 13.0 build from May. No problems at all.

However, I seem to recall that previously for pairing, I'd click the blue bar to search for devices, and in a few seconds my 235 would display the PIN, I'd get a prompt to enter then pin, and then it would start the pairing process. Instead yesterday after a few seconds I was prompted to add the watch, or keep searching with no change from the attempting to pair spinner on the 235. Then there was about 30 seconds of "connecting to device" , then the 235 displayed a pin, and finally I got a prompt to enter it. About 10 seconds later the rest of the process completes.

My moto G was still working with bluetooth headphones, so that didn't scream hardware problem to me.

After the downgrade of an Android on 6.0 and finally pairing FR235 and Huawei P9 Lite few weeks ago it all worked fine until today. Again, no connection, timed out while pairing... I have tried everything, even the tip from the link that lucky510 gave, but still nothing. Should I update to Android 7 or something?? It's really bad from Garmin to do this.

Just got an official answer from Garmin Italy: they know that there is some issues with the huawei pairing and they are working to solve it. Finger crossed.
