Garmin Connect Mobile Android 3.5.0.1 released

My phone updated to GC-Mobile 3.5 this morning:
Move IQTm automatically differentiates movements such as walking, running, biking, swimming and using an elliptical and then lets you review all your daily activities on Garmin ConnectTm. (Available for compatible devices only.)
Fixed a crash occurring on app startup for some Samsung phones.
Support for new products including vivofit 3 and vivoactive HR.
Compete against other Connect users with group challenges.

I will report back later with a more definite statement, but it seems so far that one of the fixes has solved my Bluetooth lockup => battery drain problem. 8 hours so far and no lockup. (I really hope so, I've had to live without Bluetooth on for 3 months now).
  • Do you have location services enabled. I had issue sync my Fenix 3 and had to enable location services. It's kind of stinks that location services have to be enabled now. Once connected you can disable location services, but if you walk to a distance where you phone disconnects from the device you will have to re enable location services to connect / sync again.

    I hope this helps...

No, it doesn't matter. Tried with GPS activated on both phone and watch, still no success.

one step forwards , one backwards

as soon as one thing is fixed with Garmin another is broken.

I reported earlier in this thread that my bluetooth lockup/battery drain problem was gone, and that is still so, but now things still don't seem to be working all the time. I have had to power cycle my phone twice and reset GC some times too to keep my VSHR and F3 syncing. I don't yet have a handle on the problem to identify any possible cause - beyond that is still GC that is by far the prime suspect.

"Auto Upload = OFF" seems to be ignored

Since the update to 3.5.0.1 the device setting Auto Upload is ignored if it is set to OFF. As soon as Bluetooth is enabled on the watch (Fenix 3) everything is uploaded, despite Auto Upload being set to OFF.
I will verify later if this is true for another watch as well (to rule out the SW on the F3).
  • After update, the program does not fit the screen when using MyfitnessPal.Galaxy S6 edge.

Two days ago my VSHR stopped syncing with Connect. Today I uninstalled Connect but now I can't even pair my VSHR and Connect freezes up. I had to manually sync via my USB on my desktop which is totally inconvenient. I'm super frustrated, as soon as one thing is fixed with Garmin another is broken.

Ok, So I finally got Connect installed on my tablet again (I can't use it on my older iphone) and I got my VSHR paired up but now it sits in an endless sync where the progress bar doesn't move and it never syncs. I haven't been able to sync my device through bluetooth for a week now which means I don't have anything syncing with My Fitness Pal either. Does anyone else have this sync issue? Btw, just for fun I tried it on my hubby's mobile phone and it works no problem, so it seems to be a problem on the tablet (maybe older android)? I love my device but these issues are BS. I'm ready to go get a FitBit. :(

Exclamation "Auto Upload = OFF" is ignored

Confirmed by connection a Fenix 2 SE; GCM 3.5.0.1 ignores the "Auto Upload" OFF setting.

The only workaround is to switch off Bluetooth on the watch, but that of course disables receiving phone notifications. A fix would be greatly appreciated!

In 3.5, the "auto upload" device setting component was purposely disabled. On app upgrade (from 'x' to 3.5) each device's "auto upload" setting was forced "ON". This was by design. There are future plans to define individual "auto upload" settings per type of upload. For example: auto upload activities (true/false), auto upload step data (true/false).

After update, the program does not fit the screen when using MyfitnessPal.Galaxy S6 edge.

The only time I've seen that happen is when the phone's font size was changed. I can reproduce this by setting a Samsung Note 4 font size to "Large".

Thank you for your answer. I will not use Bluetooth anymore as long as it implies uploading my data, and will inform others about this.

I think it might be better to remove the non-functional OFF switch from the app, as it gives an incorrect perception of privacy.

That would be very good. I will reinstall GCM once that has been done. Will the change be announced here?

I'm using a Forerunner 235 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab_S tablet (released mid-2014) running Android 5.0.2, and not seeing connection or sync issues with Garmin Connect Mobile. Which tablet model and which Android version are you using?

The only workaround is to switch off Bluetooth on the watch, but that of course disables receiving phone notifications.
Why wouldn't unpairing the watch in the Android operating system settings be equally available and effective as another workaround?

I will not use Bluetooth anymore as long as it implies uploading my data,_…‹snip›… I will reinstall Garmin Connect Mobile once that has been done.
I've never seen activity data being synced while the Garmin Connect Mobile app is not running. However, as long as the app is installed and the watch paired and connected, I can still receive notifications on the latter even when the app is not running. (I've just tested and confirmed it again with tablet and FR235.)
