regression: can't delete side-loaded apps

No way to delete side loaded apps anymore

  • No problem here. Use the 3 dots at the top right :

  • No problem here. Use the 3 dots at the top right :

I love the subtle implications here:

    - that OP doesn't know how to delete apps at all, so you're helpfully telling him how to do it

Never mind the fact that "regression" and "anymore" imply that OP was previously able to delete sideloaded apps just fine.

    - since you don't experience this problem, therefore OP must be mistaken (because it's never been the case in all the history of tech issues that one user experiences a problem that others do not)

Speaking of being mistaken, are you sure the app in the screenshot was sideloaded?

I see the Einstellungen (Settings) button, which has never been available for sideloaded apps, since app settings are not available for sideloaded apps. If that app had been sideloaded, I would expect the Einstellungen button either be absent or greyed out.

Hint: installing an app from the store is not the same as sideloading. I mean it would be ironic if you didn't know what sideloading is in the first place, and simply decided to respond to OP anyway, in such a way that implies he's mistaken and that the real problem is he doesn't know that you have to tap the 3 dots button and select "Uninstall".

No way to delete side loaded apps anymore

I haven't been checking continuously, but hasn't this been the case for a long time (maybe on and off)? iirc, in the past, sideloaded apps would appear in the Connect IQ app, but the uninstall option was available. It's possible that at some point, the uninstall option was brought back tho.

I just checked and in the latest version of the Connect IQ app (on iOS):

    - I see a watch face that I sideloaded a long time ago (years ago) and I'm given the option to uninstall it (but I didn't actually try to uninstall it, because I won't be able to put it back on the watch due to new restrictions on what can be sideloaded)

    - I don't see more recently sideloaded apps at all (including watch faces, device apps and data fields)

If it was previously working, I can see how the current situation is super frustrating.

If you need to delete a sideloaded app, you can use the Connect IQ store app on the Garmin device itself (assuming your device supports it). Otherwise:

    - you can use Garmin Express (yeah, I know this is the worst possible solution since Express is known to mess up settings)

    - if your watch is old enough, you can delete it directly from the file system (probably unlikely at this point; afaik, all currently supported watches now "hide" PRGs for all app types -- meaning FR255/265/FR955/FR965, Fenix 7, and newer watches)

  • The problem is that the side loaded app is not shown/listed in the My Apps view. So no "..." button

  • Thx FlowState, using the on watch Connect IQ Store app does list it and let me uninstall it.  First use I've found for the Store app! (which I normally don't have installed Slight smile

  • Yeah, that's literally the only thing I use it for haha.

For all other uses it's not convenient as it's extremely slow.

The problem is that the side loaded app is not shown/listed in the My Apps view. So no "..." button

Yup that's what I'm seeing now, except for one very old sideloaded watch face. Newer sideloaded apps (including watch faces) are all missing from the list of installed apps in the Connect IQ phone app.

This might be a new bug, as I *think* the past history of this feature was:

    - sideloaded apps used to be shown in the CIQ app and you could uninstall them

    - at some point the uninstall option was removed

    - a bit later, the uninstall option came back (there may have been some communication from the CIQ team about this, as well)

    - currently sideloaded apps are not shown at all in the CIQ app
