Garmin connect coach calendar not syncing properly

I’ve started a cycling garmin coach improved fitness program and when you click on the day of some of the workouts in the garmin connect app, it’s either not showing the workout or the wrong workout.

Online it’s seems to be okay. I’ve tried the usual delete the program and restart it and close the app or refresh it.

  • I'm having the exact same problem.  I'm training for a big ride this summer and set up a Garmin Coach training plan.  It synced to my 1040 seemingly OK initially, but as the plan has gone on it no longer is correct.  For example the Coach plan on Garmin Connect shows a threshold workout for me but my 1040 tells me it's a rest day.  The rest of the week is wrong too.

I'm in a support chat with Garmin now and will let post back if there is a good resolution to the issue.

  • Hi, any sollution or explanation from support? My watch (Fenix 7 Pro) syncs perfectly, but my Edge 840 has an individual program.

  • Hi Miles, I'm facing the same issue. Did you find a solution/workaround?

  • I worked with support and we went through several attempts including resetting the device (a bummer) and deleting and re-creating the training plan (again).

What finally worked was setting the Edge as the primary device in Garmin Connect.  The way I understood the explanation (and I think I have this right) is that even if the plan is not compatible with a device, it sort of gets routed to that device first and the recalculation of the plan happens there.  Something appears to be not working correctly for cycling plans going through my Fenix 6.  When I put the Edge as the primary device, the sync works correctly, and has for several weeks now.

To set priority, I did it on my Android phone.  Open Garmin Connect and click on the device icon in the upper right corner to show your devices.  Select the current primary device (likely your watch).  Click on the 3 dots in the upper right and select "Manage Device Priority".  On my phone I see the 4th gray box that says "Primary Training Device".  Click that, select your Edge and then close out.  It did take a few hours for the plan to sync, but it's been working correctly ever since.

    Good luck!

  • Wow, same setup here: Fenix 6 as my primary device. I have high hopes that Garmin recently fixed the problem, though.
Since the last update, synchronization seems to have improved. It still has some kind of delay—there’s no immediate synchronization of the training plan when the devices sync, but it happens only after a couple of hours.
I use my watch for running and my Edge for cycling, and I'm a bit afraid it will mess up my current (cycling) training plan if I change it now. My event takes place in three months.

I'll definitely change my primary device if my concerns turn out to be unfounded. Thanks for your reply!

  • I get it.  If it's working, no reason to change.  I'm doing the same thing in reverse.  Since mine is working now, I'm going to leave it as is.  Once my event is done in a few months, I will flip it back and test that setup.
