Dexcom G7 not working with existing GC Dexcom data field and glance/app

As the title states, I'm wearing a new Dexcom G7 CGM and have the app installed on my iPhone (works perfectly as long as the iPhone is within 20 feet).  Installed the Dexcom app and data field from CG and walked through the install steps on my Fenix 7X Solar.  No blood sugar data is showing up on the watch data field or app.  Strangely the graph of the glucose data points populates with tiny dots representing blood glucose levels but no numbers and the main data field in the app says "NO DATA".  I started a run and got one initial glucose level then nothing throughout the rest of the 45 minute run, even though I had my phone with me.

It may just be early and there hasn't been time to get the Dexcom apps updated to be compatible with the newer G7 sensor?  I'll be patient.

  • FWIW, I switched from the G6 to the G7 about 3 weeks ago and not been having a good experience with the Dexcom widget and data field on my fenix 6S pro - I see "No Data". As mentioned previously, I turned on sharing and set myself as a follower in the G7 app on my phone, and then installed the Follow app and started following myself.
    Did not help.
I contacted Dexcom support and they suggested that I needed to uninstall and reinstall the Dexcom widget and data field on the watch via the Garmin Connect IQ app. I did this, then added the widget and data filed back into their correct positions in all of my activities on the watch, signed back in to my Dexcom account for the widget and the data field, and things still do not work properly.
Did anyone catch all of that? It's a lot freaking steps with absolutely no documentation on Dexcom's support pages. In fact, I could find no information there about integrations with Garmin devices at all in there. Weak sauce.
Considering switching back to G6 because of this.

  • I tried this and I still have no data field data. The widget on normal watch works fine but anything related to activates data field, just the box and arrow, no blood sugar. I've tried the process several times with no luck.  Forerunner 955 and Galaxy S21

My biggest issue is that the data field worked perfectly in March and April. It was once the Garmin App updated to the ugly new version that it stopped working so I believe it's on Garmin, not Dexcom's fault.

  • I am experiencing similar problems. Think the problem is in the Dexcom server. Anyway Garmin should fix this issue before advertising that venue 3 works with Dexcom.

  • I've been pushing both Garmin and Dexcom on this for months. I use a Dexcom G7 and was excited to receive an announcement last Januuary that its data could be displayed on my Garmin watch. I installed it pretty soon after, and the Dexcom app has always shown "No Data".

After fiddling with it a few months trying to get it to work. I reported the problem to Garmin. They asked for logs, had me make repeated updates and uninstalls/reinstalls. All to no avail. In the process Garmin even upgraded me from a Venu 2 to a Venu 3 to no avail. In October, Garmin gave up and sent me to Dexcom for support. (I suggested Garmin should call Dexcom themselves and join forces, but I digress.) After months of calling Dexcom (our motto: "we promise to call back, but never will"), I finally got to someone who called himself a supervisor.

According to him, the Garmin app currently only works/is supported for the G6 -- not the G7. He pointed me to https://www.dexcom.com/compatibility/ for reference. That page lists information for both the G6 and G7. For the G6, the Smartwatch section at the bottom lists both Apple watchOS and Android Wear. For the G7, the same section only lists Apple WatchOS. He says this is why the app does not work with the G7.

I'm not sure what to believe. The Dexcom or Garmin websites that discuss the integration (ie https://www.dexcom.com/en-us/partnerships/lifestyle-devices, https://www.dexcom.com/en-us/partnerships/lifestyle-devices, and https://apps.garmin.com/apps/027db46d-fbc8-4362-a65f-05fa6c0f113f) make absolutely no mention of this limitation. And updates here from Brandon.ConnectIQ directly contradict the Dexcom assertion.

Either way, I'm very, very disappointed that Dexcom and Garmin refuse to get together to address the problem.

  • Thank you for the detailed report Tony - and all of the extra time and work to attempt to have this resolved.  I've had continual issues with my G7 reporting to my Garmin bike device for months now.  The only workaround I have found is to "sign out" and then "sign in" again to the Dexcom server.  That usually repairs the link at least for that event for me.  It's super annoying as I would presume this could be an easy fix by Dexcom with the integration and reporting.  The good news is that the reporting works very well with my iWatch with the direct to watch so that's my new backup.
