bug: regression: can't delete side-loaded apps from Connect IQ

In the past it was possible to delete side-loaded apps from Connect IQ. It's gone now. Please fix it.

  • I got a response from Garmin:

In 1 email they asked for a video demonstrating the problem, in the 2nd they sent me this:

Garmin has been aware of this issue and engineering has been working adamantly towards a resolution. The reason I'm asking for this information is because our engineering team is requesting we ask customers who are fielding/reporting this issue to provide this info in relation their specific report. Please provide and confirm the following,
    • Does this error only occur when using mobile data? Or does it also happen while using a Wi-Fi connection on the phone?
    • When the error appears, is the Garmin Connect mobile app running in the background of the phone? If not, does leaving the app open resolve the issue with Connect IQ?

  • Same problem, I have side loaded a data field on Forerunner 255 Music. It is impossible to remove it now...

  • Actually it's even worse than what I thought. This is the response I got from Garmin when I reported this regression:

"I did talk to my team here before reaching out with the last email we just wanted to make sure we were sure about the process you were using. As that is not how apps have been designed to be loaded to the watch, it makes that the app is having trouble removing them. Since these are also unreleased apps you are using. The short answer is that if you want them to be able to be removed the conventional way, you will need to load them the conventional way. I understand this may have worked in the past, but with updated to both IQ and a major update to Garmin Connect 5.0 its likely that was removed."

  • lol classic garmin

This is the same company where support tells customers to uninstall all their CIQ apps if they have problems with battery drain or crashes. Lots of ppl have repeated that advice on the forums.

I mean it might be good advice, but it speaks volumes about Garmin's "commitment" to CIQ. Like Garmin Express, CIQ works best when you don't use it.

  • I think it's even worse: the left hand doesn't know what the right hand does
