Servers unavailable

Hi,
Just received an Edge 1000 as a present. It's running v2.8 so I thought I would update it.
So, as instructed I have created a Garmin Connect account and installed Express On my Macbook pro (OS X Yosemite 10.10.3).
I can log into my Connect account but when I run Express , it asks me to sign in with my account details.

Here I constantly get the message
"There was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers
We're unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time"

I have tried a couple of suggestions regarding cookies, firewall etc but these haven't helped.

Hence my post here.
Any suggestions?

    Having the same problem on a brand new Forerunner 220.

    While trying to setup the 220 using Garmin Express on the Mac, I get the error: "We're unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time." After failing to setup the device on the Mac, I did one run and tried to sync with the Garmin Connect iPhone app and get a "Server error" during the syncing process. I copied the .fit file from the 220 to my Mac and tried to upload the file manually via the import tool on the web version of Garmin connect and get an "undefined" error.

    I've tried with Garmin Express 4.0.18.0 but the issue's still the same. Neither 4.0.18.0 nor 4.0.20.0 of Garmin Express work on my Mac running Yosemite 10.10.4.

    Anybody tried with Windows version of Garmin Express? Does it work there?

    Same Fenix 3. This is also happening with Garmin Connect on Windows 7.

    Same here with a brand new Edge 1000. Garmin Express does not allow me to set up (add) the device - Error message: ... servers unavailable. Everything else works (logon on website, logon with Garmin Basecamp, ...).

    Please fix it asap!
