Auto Delete after Sync'ing

Hi there.

Anybody know how to reset the Forerunner 301XT and Garmin Express Application so that the application does NOT automatically delete data on the watch once it syncs to the app/website?

In advance of your reply, I thank you.

Thank you,

David

    I did find a file for the 910XT that has the option to delete_fitness_files_after_transfer. It is called AdditionalInfo.plist and it is located in the Users/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/Unit ID of the device/ folder. This option should be set to NO or false. I have changed it using Xcode to YES and TextEdit to True in order to duplicate your issue. Express always changes it back to NO or false when I sync the 910XT and the activity remains in the History menu.

    The Additionalinfo.plist file is deleted each time the 910XT is removed from Express, so it shouldn't have been able to hang around through the Express updates unless the 910XT has never been removed. Check the file and let me know if the option is enabled. Remove/Add the device to Express again. I will private message you a code to send the Express Logs.

    I have never seen Express truncate the activity files so I have no explanation for that as of yet. I have a feeling the device is truncating the file. Is there nothing in the History menu on the device? When was the last time you did a Master Reset on the device?

    Again I am sorry for the troubles.

  • Hi Curt,

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "www.apple.com/.../PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">

    <key>allow_map_autocheck</key>
    <false/>
    <key>approved_asset_collection</key>
    <false/>
    <key>auto_backup</key>
    <false/>
    <key>delete_fitness_files_after_transfer</key>
    <true/>

    <key>device_faq_url</key>
    <string>support.garmin.com/.../display
    <key>device_has_ignored_wifi_no_connect_account_prompt</key>
    <false/>
    <key>device_has_seen_activity_tracker_error</key>
    <false/>

    It never seems to get changed to 'false'....

    I'll change it manually and report back later.

    Thanks
    Jon
  • I quit Express, changed delete_fitness_files_after_transfer to false, created a short activity and then relaunched Express.

    It synced, deleted the activity... and changed delete_fitness_files_after_transfer back to true!

    I'm going to remove my 910XT from express and delete all the config files.
  • Curt,

    OK, after removing the 910XT and re-adding it, everything seems to be working as you describe.

    I feel you may have a bug in your upgrade process that leaves the delete_fitness_files_after_transfer set - this causes real problems when the activity fails to upload first time.

    FWIW... I'm *really* missing the button to force a sync. Auto-sync just... doesn't. I've been sitting here waiting for 15 minutes for it to retry uploading after a wifi failure.

    Thanks
    J

    Oh Garmin, here we go again, another software upgrade and another issue.

    My understanding is that the toggle option for deleting device activities was removed after upload issues with GE.

    Hence, when I have got my new replacement Garmin 920xt and the latest version of GE, why does it now do an auto delete of fit files.

    I have a swim issue that I was hoping to be able to upload the fit file to Garmin Support, but I am unable to as GE is uploading it and then deleting it from the watch.

    The answer here appears to be very simple, stop using Garmin Express as once again, you have fixed one thing and broken another.

    Yep, Garmin Express in now deleting after sync with NO way to change it. Fenix 3 - all my fit files are now gone. Thanks Garmin.

    I am sorry for the troubles. We are currently looking into the issue of Express deleting .FIT files from the Activity folder on some USB devices. This should not be occuring and can only randomly be duplicated in house. You can manually back up your FIT files on the device before syncing with Express to ensure no loss of data until the issue is corrected in a future update. Simply set Garmin Express not to run in the background then with the device connected, copy the contents of the /Garmin/Activity/ folder to another folder on your Mac's Desktop. When you sync with Garmin Express any files deleted will be in your backup if needed.

    Thanks Curt, I'm backing up the files manually until it's resolved.

    It reviewing my logs, it looks like the new version 4.0.22.0 is where it started.

    The same thing has happened to me. I was forced to update my Garmin Express software. Aft doing this my 910xt seemed to crash for about an hour when trying to sync. When it woke up again it then spent about two hours allegedly transferring data. When that was finished I checked Garmin Connect and the one new activity (Edinburgh Marathon) wasn't there. I checked the device activity history and it had deleted everything back to November 2014!! Everything other than the marathon is on Connect so not that big a deal. But losing the marathon is a total disaster. Can Garmin please tell me 1) how to get express to sync properly between the device and connect and 2) how to stop this device deleting. I've read the posts above but to be honest I have no idea if this relates to something on Express, Connect, The 910xt or the Mac itself?! Pretty poor from Garmin and if this continues I'm just going to have to throw the thing in the bin!
  • I have the same problem whit my fenix 3. When I sync my watch with garmin express, the activity appears in garmin connect history, but it disappears from fenix 3 watch. I didn't find any setting about auto-delete in the watch menu or in garmin express settings. please help me. i want to keep my activity also in the fenix3 history.
