MAC OSX Garmin Express won't enable wifi on Forerunners @ version 3.1.1.0

You must use the Windows version of Garmin Express Fit to set up wifi on your new Forerunner (tried using FR620).

For Apple/MAC OSX users, you must have a Windows computer, bootcamp or virtual machine. Here is where you get the Garmin Express FIT application that you will need to set up any new wifi network you want to connect with:

Garmin, please fix Garmin Express version 3.1.1.0 to allow wifi enablement or update the documentation. It is not clear to MAC OSX users that they must use a Windows application (G.Ex. FIT) to get wifi to work on their newly purchased Garmin Forerunner.
  • After a master reset, my ForeRunner 620 would not accept WiFi settings from the current version of Garmin Express running on a Mac with OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I followed all instructions to the T but still got the error message that WiFi had not been set up on the 620.

Using the obsolete Garmin Express Fit application, I was able to get it to work.

Between this and the recent bug in firmware 2.90 that leads to restarts during activities, I'm very disappointed with the 620. I got it because the touch bevel on my ForeRunner 410 was driving me nuts, the 620 has a nicer form factor, and the new running dynamics features appealed to me. However, this has soured me on Garmin, despite my good experiences with the Edge 800 cycle computer.
  • Garmin, it's November. Why hasn't anyone fixed this yet? I see the same problems that I'm experiencing have been happening since the beginning of the year. I don't want to hear "make sure I'm set to 802.11n/b/g"... I am. I don't want to hear delete my device and add it again... I have done this after each network change. I don't want t a link for a network error. I'm not receiving any errors, only "Set up Wi-Fi using Garmin Express". I work in this field. You can call it user error all you want... until it's a year later and you still have people asking for a fix. FIX IT.

I am sorry that you are having trouble setting up the WiFi. There are currently no issues that we are aware of that would cause this behavior since the message you are receiving indicates that there were no WiFi settings saved to the device. If you have already done the basic troubleshooting that you have mentioned, there is nothing else that I can recommend in this forum. Please contact Product Support by phone so that we can troubleshoot the issue.

yes, you're right, GARMIN FIX IT, NOW!!! what a disappointment, just upgraded from my 610, never EVER experienced any thing like this wifi setup, what a mess!!- and this, from a world leading gps manufacturer, ha, go home GARMIN and do your homework, don't put a product on the market if it's not fully tested AND running. It seems that it works on windows only, why don't they just say it then, if I've known, i wouldn't have bought this..

:o, yes, angry, and then no. Thx for your tip, but doesn't work here, I AM using Yosemite. Anyway, I made a "fix" myself, tried as advised from another poster in this thread, made a Guest network on my router, called it garmin, and it works.
Beside this frustrating little thing, I have to admit, its a fantastic watch for us runners :p

    angry customers :)

...only thing missing from Garmin is a good write-up or manual :)

could this be helpful for you all : it is about FR620 and WiFi and GE
