Garmin express - Cannot connect to ANT+ Antenna or HRM

I am trying to connect my Heart rate monitor to the Garmin world using Garmin express so that I can see it on my Tacx bike trainer app. It is an old one with just ANT+, no bluetooth, but it connects just fine to my old Edge 800 bike computer so I know it works. I also bought a Tacx ANT+ antenna to try and make the connection happen, but when I try and add a new device in Garmin Express I seem to have two problems: 1) Garmin express cannot see the brand new ANT=+ antenna 2) it cannot see the heart rate monitor either. I know the Mac is seeing the antenna as I see it in the system info. I am lost. Every bit of kit I have is Garmin, yet none of it talks to each other. Is there a solution or should I buy a new HRM?

  • Garmin Express cannot be used to connect any HRM to anything. Garmin Connect can be used to connect a Bluetooth enabled HRM for use in the way you wish in a suitable tablet or phone.

  • Thanks for that. I don't want to use phone (because tiny) and I have a Mac not a tablet. Nor do I have a bluetooth HRM, it's ANT+ only. Now that I have bought the ANT+ antenna do you know if there is any way of connecting my existing HRM to my Mac and the Tacx training app? Or must I start from scratch and buy another HRM?

  • AFAIK you need a Bluetooth enabled HRM to connect your computer to use with the Tacx app. Not sure if you can an Ant+ connector and suitable drivers to use on the Mac but I’d suggest just getting a Bluetooth enable HRM as that will connect directly.
