Garmin Express Sync Error Mac

I get this error message everytime I sync my Garmin with my Mac... even my Fenix 5 has this error message...

The link that Garmin shows to solve, doesn't work...

I can go up to step 5, because there isn't a folder called Garmin..

  • Same error. Tried following their instructions, but it makes no difference. Express for Mac is now effectively useless.

  • What I ended up having to do is go to connect.garmin.com and remove the synced device from there. Then I was able to add the device again to my phone and sync through express.

  • What are you using to connect to your watch to view the files? You need a 3rd party app like Android File Transfer, OpenMTP, or Commander One. Ensure Garmin Express is fully shutdown and not running in the background.

  • This has been driving me nuts for weeks.  Followed the Garmin support guide but it made no difference.  Removed all devices from Express, uninstalled Express and all related folders, including the application support one mentioned in the 'solution', then re-installed Express and re-re-registered all devices but the error persisted - both for the Edge 1030 Plus and an Edge 1050.

I read in an old forum post that it was related to a timestamp inconsistency so I had a look at Garmin Connect - in Settings/Display Preferences, the Upload Time Zone was set to GMT+00:00 Western European Time.  Not a setting I have ever touched but I set that to plain old GMT. Cleared out the Application Support folder once again and re-registered all devices back to Express.

I've done several device syncs now and I've not had the error since.

  • That's interesting! My time zone is set properly, so there's nothing for me to do there, but I'm glad it worked for you. Maybe I'll try fiddling with anyway to see if it does anything.

  • Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  I have the same error.  I have tried all the recommended fixes and nothing works.  If anyone has a solution please advise.

  • I checked and I have the time zone set correctly. I likewise deleted the folder from the device and added it back in Garmin Express. Nothing has changed. The error persists. I would think it is a Garmin Express problem as before the last update it was not happening to me. It also happened to me a long time ago and was fixed only when Garmin Express was updated. The strange thing is that it doesn't always throw the error, only sometimes. Time to wait...

  • I have this issue also with GE on my Mac. Once I sync it comes with no error, the other time it has an error and so on.

When I look in the folder Pending uploads, with no error there are no files. With the error there are some files in it...

  • Same issue and has persisted for me for some time - weeks now.  I deleted all activities on the 1040 Solar and it synced fine and my OTA sync was quick and successful today after my ride but just plugged in and got the error immediately.  There's only the single file from today ... which lines up with the prior errors always being the most recent but not sure what else to try now.

  • Same issue on my side with my Edge 1040 Solar, very annoying and deleting the files don't change anything.
It seems to be Strava Segments on my side.

Same issue with my girlfriend's brand new Edge 1040, on her computer, first sync, got this error popup.

Garmin express should handle this exception and fix it by itself, instead of catching the exception and throwing it to the user (software developer here!)
