I've reinstalled Garmin Express a few times after first not being able to get it to recognize the Fenix 5X - plugging it in to each USB on my MBP a few different times. After reinstalling GE, still no luck. What next???? Any ideas?
  • Same issue her, with my VSHR.
  • I needed Garmin to replace my F5x for it to work. I tried on my MacBook Air and my windows computer... a replacement watch did the trick.

Same problem here for the second time. I've recieved a replacement watch. It worked fine till now. No connection on the wire. Only wifi and bluetooth works and loading the battery. I start to lose some faith in de fenix 5x
  • Any neus about this problem with the 5X from Garmin ?

    I had the same issue.
My solution was very simple. The Garmin Express was running in the bacground on the menu bar. I chose to quit even from the background. Then I connected the wach and it appeared in about 20 seconds. I hope this helps.

I'm running into the same issue. Looks like it is the data port on the back of the watch. When you have the cable plugged in you need to keep the watch on its face or the port will get jacked. Poor design in my opinion. I can get a connection if I slowly wiggle the cable on the back of the watch, but they sync seems to run forever in GE. Still charges and syncs wirelessly.
  • This is the procedure provided by Garmin official support and it does work: WITH THE DEVICE TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE PC/MAC, HOLD THE UP-ARROW (CENTRAL BUTTON ON THE LEFT) AND CONNECT THE DEVICE TO THE PC/MAC HOLDING IT PRESSED FOR ABOUT 30 SEC. THEN IT CONNECTS WITH THE PC/MAC AND WILL BE CORRECTLY RECOGNIZED BY GARMIN EXPRESS.

Hope this solution will help you

After updating Garmin Express for Mac to version 6.8.0.0, I followed the Garmin procedure provided by P_a_Z , my Fenix 5x (firmware v10.00) was detected and did connect to the Mac.
    Thanks a lot P_a_Z !!

I turned my Fenix 5X off as suggested above (Dock351) and the watch was finally recognized...updates are loading now.
  • I found that it was Win10 that did not recognize the watch, specifically versions greater than 1506.
I could play with different PCs so I could test the watch. Also same PC with linux, mounted as MTP no problem, using Virtualbox with Win 7 NO problem so... I formatted installed this Win10-1056 version ... and it works like a charm recognizing the watch right away and launching GE....
