I've reinstalled Garmin Express a few times after first not being able to get it to recognize the Fenix 5X - plugging it in to each USB on my MBP a few different times. After reinstalling GE, still no luck. What next???? Any ideas?
Specifically this part: If the device is still unable to be recognized by the computer you can force the device to go into mass storage mode:
Disconnect device from computer
Power device off
Press and hold the Start/Stop button (top right)[SUP]1
[/SUP]
Plug device into computer
Wait until device is recognized by computer (may take up to 30 seconds)
If prompted, install USB device drivers:
Choose, "No, not at this time"
Click Next
Choose Install USB drivers automatically (Recommended)
Click Next and wait for USB driver installation to complete
Click Finish
Release appropriate button(s)
Notes: On step 5 you should see the Garmin triangle logo on the watch. Keep holding the start/stop button down for 30 seconds, then let go even though you don't see it appear as a device in FInder. I never got prompted to install USB drivers but soon after releasing the start/stop button, the watch appeared as a device in Finder and it showed connected in Garmin Express. The device should automatically go into Mass Storage mode, which is indicated by the USB symbol below the time.
I tried both methods above and still cannot get my F5x to show up on my mac or connect to Express. Just want to know if I should wait for a Garmin update or if my watch 9or cord) is defective.
I am having a problem with this as well. I have to turn watch off and back on again to get it to appear in garmin express, it can take up to 30 secs or so to actually show up. Also when it is connected, if I touch the cable it loses connection. Sometimes the connection drops when I don't even touch it! The weird thing is it still says it's charging. Customer support have sent me a new cable and it has made no difference to the dropping out issue. Not sure if hardware or firmware issue.
Same problem, since upgrading to 5.30 my F5X, it is not recognized by the computer. I have tried on 2 different PC, with 2 different cables, device is not detected at all. I have activate in the BIOS the XHCI port, then I get the device detected on this port but not recognized, I get a "Device descriptor request failed" ... Garmin ___ Please help!
Just purchased my Fenix 5x. Downloaded Garmin Express and it did not recognize my device the first time. So I went back and downloaded Garmin express again. I'm downloading Garmin Express onto a MacBook Pro. The second download I read all the instructions. What I'd neglected to do the first time was shut down all programs pertaining or dealing with the Fenix 5x. I even shut down Safari. Then I opened up Garmin Express install and went through the process of having it recognize my device. Garmin Express was then able to recognize my Fenix 5x. I did not change any settings. Make sure all programs are shut down before trying to install Garmin Express and having it recognize your device!!
Two different F5x, 3 different cables, 2 different MBPro, one under Sierra and one under High Sierra and still the same mess with connection every 20 tries... And connection goes flawlessly on W8 PC :(
