Vivoactive HR won't connect

My Vivoactive HR is not detected by the Garmin Express software on Mac OSX 10.11.6, 2011 Macbook Pro. I am running the latest Garmin Express (5.1.0).

I have tried everything in the frequently-referenced FAQ:

- Connecting using the supplied charging cable
- No other devices connected
- The device face shows the USB icon and it is charging
- I have verified both USB ports working and have tried it in both; other devices work fine on these ports
- I have restarted the computer many times

It successfully connected only once, when I first got it, in mid-December. Since that one time, it has never worked again.

What is the next step?

    I am having the same issue. I have had my Vivoactive HR for several months and never had an issue connecting to Garmin Express. As of Mid December 2016 i have been unable to connect.
    I can confirm this as well:
    - Connecting using the supplied charging cable
    - No other devices connected
    - The device face shows the USB icon and it is charging
    - I have verified both USB ports working and have tried it in both; other devices work fine on these ports
    - I have restarted the computer many times

    Running MacOS Sierra 10.12.2 Macbook pro. Garmin Express 5.1.0.0. I also tried the previous version of Garmin Express and it did not work either.

    Me too. Is there any fix I wonder? I have only had the Vivoactive HR for a couple of weeks and it was difficult last time I synced and won't connect at all this time. How bloody annoying ! Garmin??????
  • I've only had my Vivoactive HR for about two weeks. I've yet to be able to connect via Garmin Express, which I want to do to get firmware updates. (I'd rather Garmin distribute the firmware like the beta firmware versions, which is easier to install via GNU/Linux.) I don't get the Vivoactive HR as a selection (closest is Vivoactive). Is this the problem people have been experiencing? Or is it something else?

    Update - if I shutdown my vivoactive hr, then turned it back on, then attempted to connect to my mac, it worked. Hope that helps.

  • I made another attempt at Garmin Express today... After plugging in the Vivoactive HR, I started up Garmin Express. I then answered "Yes" to the Mass Storage question on the Vivoactive HR. It took a bit, but Garmin Express asked me if I wanted to add the Vivoactive HR! (I didn't get this question before.) It sync'ed and I got the latest 3.40 firmware. After unmounting on the Mac side, the Vivoactive HR said it was Updating, then rebooted, then informed me that 3.40 was installed. Sweet. It pretty much worked as expected.

    I had the same set of problems with my VAHR and it worked for me too.....hope i dont have to explore too many more solutions!
  • Thanks.  This worked for me also.  Not sure why I did not think of "rebooting" the device but I didn't.
