Garmin Express - "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect."

Former Member
Hi All,

I am looking for some help with the below issue:

I am able to sync my Garmin Edge 800 & 810 with my Garmin connect account, I.E it is sync my recent activities, but it will not allow me to push new courses created and throw up the error within Garmin express ""There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect." even-though the last sync time with my device is being updated within the software.

All of my software is up to date in regards to device firmware and Garmin Express.

I have two devices, a edge 800 & 810 that both experience these issues, I have also tried using a different computer, using a different network to perform the send to device action.

Please see attached image of error message.

Thanks in advance!

Moving away from Connect as still can not download courses... try Ride with GPS

    Hi Guys,

so i have had this problem where garmin express will not download any new rides i make on connect to my Garmin edge 1000,

i have had this problem now for around 3 months..

i have contacted support and have completed everything they asked me to, yet it still will not download any new courses to my device

so i am now using ride with gps, only using the free account, but designing a rout is as easy as it is with connect,

then download as a tcx or gpx file and put into the new files folder in the garmin unit directory.. i now use tcx file as it gives me a bit more detail and warning when using the route, and i really like it.

This is actually a really great option if you are having this syncing problem, and to be honest i like the tcx files so much more, i might actually stay with these guys for all my routes, plus you cna search other routes that people have made or completed and download their route as a tcx file to use... Really good stuff...

    Good luck

So I've found a way around this problem.

You can still use the old Garmin Training Centre to send courses, and receive activities. From TC you can then export activities, to import into (in my case), Strava.

Will just stop using Garmin Connect to create courses, and instead use Strava instead. Although the functionality isn't quite as smooth, you can at least export your created courses as TCX files - and then after importing them into TC, push them to your device.

    Hope this helps you.

    Dinosour with Forerunner 205

I have installed V4.0.25 and gone thru the stages until I have to link the device. The 205 is in the cradle and powered up. I search for the device, but it will not find it.

This is just painful. I uploaded for years direct to Strava with nil issues. Now this has been put in as a 3rd party upload and nothing but problems.

    Forerunner 305 same problem

Please could someone help me. Im having this same problem. "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect".

Ive tried deleting an adding the device. This has had no effect.

Ive tried deleting and reinstalling the garmin express software. This has had no effect

Ive tried uploading manually - My Garmin doesnt appear as a mass storage device device on my computer even though it is clearly connected.

Ive clicked the two arrows icon on Garmin connect. This brings up nothing.

My Garmin express homepage says it is on software version 2.90 and it checked for updates at 21:05 tonight. Is this correct?

Im really annoyed as even if this is being caused by a corrupt file on my device it was still working via the plug in communicator though this now appears to not be supported by any browsers. Why update a system if it makes it impossible to use.

    Thanks

I am sorry for the troubles. There is a known issue with the Edge 305, 605, 705 and Forerunner 201, 205, 305 devices receiving Courses from Garmin Connect. The Garmin Connect team is aware of the issue and working on a resolution. Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

  • 910xt and Edge 800 also has the same issue

Neither of my devices will sync courses direct from Garmin Express. When is a solution expected for this. It seems that the majority of Garmin devices no longer work!!!

The Course in your Sync menu is not saved in your Courses menu. First delete the one in the Sync menu then save the Activity Route 10 etc... as a Course. Send it from the Course menu to the device.

    Forerunner 205 not syncing

I'm having same/similar issues with my Forerunner 205, Garmin Express detects my device, reports that it's syncing but nothing shows up on Garmin Connect (last sync date over a month ago there). Only trying to upload a few simple activities, no courses.

I have the new 4.1.3.0 version of Garmin Express (same error before I upgraded software).

You may want to try using Classic Connect and Garmin Communicator Plugin (CPI) to see if you can get your activities to upload to Connect.

If you don't already have Garmin Communicator Plugin installed, this FAQ will assist you with the installation:

How do I install the Garmin Communicator Plugin?

Once CPI is installed, log into Connect, click on the user tab and Switch to Classic Temporarily. You can access an upload (upper right hand corner) which will use CPI to detect your Forerunner 205. If it is detected, any new activities can be uploaded.

I recommend clearing out any old history on the device that is no longer needed, those activities that are already in Connect. New activities may not be saved properly if the device is running out of space.

If you continue to have problems uploading your activities, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.
