Garmin Express - "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect."

Hi All,

I am looking for some help with the below issue:

I am able to sync my Garmin Edge 800 & 810 with my Garmin connect account, I.E it is sync my recent activities, but it will not allow me to push new courses created and throw up the error within Garmin express ""There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect." even-though the last sync time with my device is being updated within the software.

All of my software is up to date in regards to device firmware and Garmin Express.

I have two devices, a edge 800 & 810 that both experience these issues, I have also tried using a different computer, using a different network to perform the send to device action.

Please see attached image of error message.

Thanks in advance!
  • ...and it's not just Garmin Express. I've just bought a new Honda Civic that includes a Garmin SatNav integrated with the audio and other systems. It should include free map updates like the stand alone devices but Honda have told me that they can't get the Garmin to recognise memory sticks with the update on it. Honda must be furious - in my experience, they don't like things that don't work as promised.
  • I have had problems - unable to sync/upload with Garmin Express for many many months. I have tried everything, many many times - often for 3 hours a time. Total time wasted - probably over 100 hours. Useless.

The only way I can ever upload data from my 910XT is to download the old Ant Agent software, set the 910XT to pair, and this sometimes works. Avoid Garmin Express altogether.

Garmin - don't get me wrong, I love your products - use them all the time. But this upload problem with Express must be fixed before I ever buy Garmin again.

Oh - and having the call centre only open from Mon-Fri 9-5pm is completely useless, because I work like everyone else and I upload using my home PC. Therefore - its impossible to contact you - completely impossible.

    Please get this fixed

Update 19 May: I have disabled the automatic launch of Garmin Express. I have downloaded the Ant Agent and the Ant Agent now works seamlessly for my old 910XT - well at least twice!!! I also turned off auto-updates for Express. Might be worth trying that if you have one

happening for me as well with a new 620 forerunner.
i get the following error on Garmin Express (4.0.20): "there was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers" "We're unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time" I can logon to the Garmin Connect webpage with this user.
  • UPDATE 5-19-2015 -

    Brendhan, thanks!

I did a complete uninstall of Garmin from the PC, re-installed Express, added the Forerunner, and its now sync'ing activities with Connect. Back in business.

The JSP java error is typically cleared up by clearing cache, etc., in the browser. As you may not be able to get to our FAQs on clearing the cache, I have included some information on how to do so:

Occasionally it may be necessary to clear the web browser history, cache, and temporary Internet files to correct a display, upload, or download issue.

    To clear these items:

    Internet Explorer (IE):

    IE 9, 10, and 11 - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-to-delete-your-browsing-history-in-Internet-Explorer-9
    IE 7 and 8 - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Delete-webpage-history
    Firefox (PC or Mac): http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History
    Chrome (PC or Mac): http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95537

    Safari 5.1.7 (PC):

    • Click Edit1 menu
    • Click Empty Cache
    • Click Empty
    • Click History
    • Click Clear History
    • Click Clear

After clearing the history, cache, and temporary Internet files, restart the web browser. The web page should display correctly and transfers to or from Garmin web pages should complete successfully.

1Safari 5.1.7 (PC): By default the Menu Bar containing the Edit menu is displayed after install. If hidden, click the gear icon in upper right and click Show Menu Bar.

Same for me with FR310XT. I just bought it, it used to work for a week and now it says "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect."
I removed-readded the device, uninstalled-reinstalled Garmin Express, restarted the device but still can't upload courses :(
Workouts seem to get uploaded, but courses sent to the device from Garmin Connect through Garmin Express just don't sync any more. Every software is up to date.
I'm very very disappointed, it was way too much money for this experience. Considering Polar or Suunto next time. Waisted 2 hours with this problem already, I wanted to go train but now time passed with this low quality software.
I love the watch but the software is near useless. I'm a software developer too, experiencing bugs for so long by so many user is just unacceptable for such a big company with such good reputation.
I'm sorry for the bad words, but I'm very sad now losing so much time trying Garmin Express get to work.

Some users are unable to get their activities upload to Connect during the sync. Your issue is that one Course will not transfer to the 310. It maybe that the one Course you tried to send had some corrupt data in it. I removed the one stuck your Sync menu then created duplicate course called Veszprém Cycling - Support in your Courses menu. After your next successful activity sync, try to send that course to the 310XT.
